Ok so horse came in from the field lame two weeks ago. Foot was hot so called vet who took shoe off and found an abscess (lots of pus). So horse is in for a week with the standard treatment: hot, wet poultice for 3 days until it was all clean and then dry poultice.
After 3 days of dry poultice, yellow fluid with no smell starts coming out. Leg cold and hard, horse sound. Vet came out and dug around again but nothing came out. So tubbed foot for 3 days and poulticed with dry poultice. All fine for a few days then yellow fluid again (no smell).
I've never had an ongoing thing like this. Anyone know what this fluid is likely to be and whether it matters. I can't believe it's pus because it doesn't smell.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing. Normally abscesses clear up after a few days so I'm a bit confused.

I'd give your vet a ring and ask him, doesnt sound like you should be to worried about it if horse is sound and no heat in the foot, maybe its some sort of residual fluid coming out

Thanks for advice, guys. Got shoe put on a couple of days ago. Blacksmith agreed it was still oozing but reckoned it was best to risk putting shoe on and turning out anyway (cos he'd been stood in for two weeks). Sound so far and full of beans so am keeping fingers crossed.
