One of my mares went slightly lame about 10 days ago, couldn't find anything. Then, 5 days ago, hopping lame, poulticed and after 24 hours, these holes oozing pus appeared on her coronet band.
No more pus today, and farrier said put dry poultice on,but she's hopping lame. Spoken to vet who said leave it a few more days, and maybe put hot poultice back on her to see if can draw out.
Has anyone had any expertise of an absess bursting out in several worm like holes round the coronet?

That was some abscess - usually they pop out of one hole. I'd keep poulticing until she goes sound, but in the meantime I would suggest that the vet sees these. I don't normally have antibiotics for an abscess but maybe this is one time

*Update*
Got to yard yesterday morning and mare hopping lame again, so vet came out after speaking to her on the phone.
She said this type of abscess is rare (typical of my luck!) but because it's gone up rather than down, can cause infection in the many blood supplies round the coronet. There had been a tiny hole on the sole, which she then dug out more, and some pus ran out. It's under run, which is not ideal, so we have 3 days of hot poultice, 3 of cold then will need packing to heal, as effectively an open wound.
Jab of antibiotic plus 6 days worth in feed.
Don't wish this on anyone, but obviously should it happen, keep a close eye due to the possible problems with the blood supply becoming infected. Vet didn't think ours was, as mare hasn't got a temperature, but wasn't prepared to chance one developing, as said she would never give antibiotic for an abscess as a rule.
