Is the ban on movement already national? I realise this is a nightmare for farmers and my worries are tiny by comparison, but I'm just wondering. I'm supposed to be doing my first ever competition on Tuesday and its held on a working farm (they have pigs, I'm not sure if they have other animals) and there are cattle and sheep on the estate my yard os on
As this is up the road from me,we did not hack out last time, and I'm in the 3 kilometre zone so will not hack out this time as I said it's on my doorstep.......so I'm right bang in it! I think all this panic may be uncalled for,but I know for a fact when I go to the yard in the morning the straw and disinfectant will be ready and YO will say no hacking out,and also YO has a tack shop and feed merchant business that supplies to farms....so we won't be going any where!
[ QUOTE ]
ok this may seem a stupid question but can you buy disinfectant for horses? like to bath them in or something? if so, where from?
[/ QUOTE ]
You do not need bath your horse! Read my replies,I will have to disinfect my feet when I live the yard my horse will not have to as he will not be leaving it as I'm in the zone!
QR: Just when I thought this week (let alone today
) couldn't get anyworse and I hear about F&M
I'm meant to be stewarding up at gatcombe this weekend - so far no advice on their webby... Im assuming the event will still run but car, wellies etc will need disinfecting entering and leaving the site (and when I go up the yard once Im home)???

Now, could someone be kind enough as to inform me as too way it is only cleated hoofed animals can be effected?
[/ QUOTE ]
These animals are affected
Among farm stock, cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats are susceptible, as are llamas and alpacas. Some wild animals such as hedgehogs, coypu, and any wild cloven-footed animals such as deer and zoo animals including elephants can also contract it.
Thanks Spanial, yes it was me! I'm really sick. I have tried to do my first ever dressage test twice before. The first time I planned it, my mare went lame and was off work for 8 months, the second time, I went lame (don't ask) and couldn't ride for 5 1/2 months and it looks like I won't be able to do it on Tuesday either
I know this is a much bigger deal for many other and I have no business feeling sorry for myself, but I do a bit
I think a lot of horse shows will be cancelled especially after last time, they will be a lot more stricter after the chaos in 2001. BUT I'm only assuming. Thats why I wondered if Gatcombe would be cancelling

Last time we needed licenses to move horses, either in or out. Not sure what the situation is now though.
They can be carriers though so it would seem good mannered not to move them/hack out etc. depending on where you are

I didn't have horses in 2001. Did you hack around your own land during the last outbreak?
I can't believe this is happening again. I really can't. Milk prices had just gone up too. No doubt they'll crash again now. How can we sustain our industry when there's little faith left in farming, even before this.
I hope they are a lot more strict- Patches- last time we were advised by defra to hack around our own land and not to go far, our hunt called hounds early and the horses at ours were turned to grass as it was just easier. Hopefully this time the government should say NO hacking about bridleways etc, no shows, equine events, and it is crap for us all but the chaos that rose last time should be a lesson to the govmt.
