I have an enduring memory from 2001....the site of a grown man crying as his cattle were dragged away to be burned.

I could weep now just thinking about that day. I really hoped I wouldnt see that again. Lime pits in '66, pyres in 2001, please....no more.

Patches just sending a big hug to you and hope they manage this time to contain it better.
Last time was such a huge cock up they must have better contigency plans in place now.
I remember driving to Atlantic Village to go shopping, none of us had really gone very far at all whilst it was at it's height for fear of spreading it (it was 8 miles from here at it's peak) and wondering why all the fields looked so full of grass and green.
Then it hit me, all the cosw and sheep were dead that normally grazed them..

They have just agreed to fill in the massive pit they dug in North Devon for carcasses, so satisfied they were that it wouldn't return, so I am sure they won't be doing mass culling again, but perhaps vaccinations this time.
Your family must feel dreadful, especially as you may be at risk living near the M6..
I think I would buy a massive supply of tea treee oil and spray all the buildings on that side, the stuff is supposed to kill even MRSA....
Joking aside, keep your chin up, this may just be a blip...

DEFRA are saying the national ban on movement DOES include horses, even though this is contradicted on their website. (NIce to know DEFRA are up to standard then as usual!)

[/ QUOTE ]

Not according to Ed Milliband, Agriculture Secretary, on the radio this morning - in response to emails he said the movement ban did not apply to horse shows and racing.

And also on the Gatcombe website it states-

[ QUOTE ]
Horses are not included in the movement restrictions and Gatcombe Park is clear of the restrictions and the Festival of British Eventing is running as planned. We are in contact with DEFRA and any further information will be posted here.

Whilst I dont want to be rude to anyone, I am rather surprised by some of the replies here.
A farmer has just had his herd culled and his livelihood possibly ruined. Other farmers are worried they are going to suffer the same fate and may not be able to make enough money to feed their families etc.
All some people seem to be worried about is if they can go for a hack or a show.
perhaps I have read it all wrong but blimey people !!!!!!
I dont know many people with cattle etc but please spare a thought for them.............your horse will survive not going for a jaunt in the woods for a while.............the poor cows etc may not see tomorrow nor farmers make a living
