Foot wear for footpacks

My boys both go out with the local bassets. I need to get them better boots, wellies are hopeless and trainers or football boots don't offer enough support. When I was young we wore those canvas hockey boots, but I don't think you can still get them. Walking boots can be a bit heavy. Any ideas?
They are hooked, going on hound exercise and everything so its great.

Thats worth looking into, they might cope with a ploughed Essex field in December!

Muckers that extend up beyond the ankle are good;mountain horse joddie boots are excellent..and look up some of the shooting clothers for good stout leather that is dubbined for waterproofing.
