I used to have an over zealous farrier (hoof cut right back, nails in high) who made my non laminitic horse 'footy'. I used to give her bute for a few days until it wore off. You may already be using bute if your horse is laminitic. Suggest you have a word with your vet.
well the last time my lammi prone was shod she was lame for almost 2 weeks! i was less than impressed, thankfully after visits from the vet and multiple shoeings to that foot she is now happily sound, which is nice. She had never been footy before, farrier didnt wana take the blame but i know it was him
I told him he needed to treat that foot differently, like not putting nails in too high and over trimming, and he did, and now my mare is happy again, thank god, i was so bloody worried.
i think they can get footy, lammi prones, but i think generally it should not have to come to that and that the farrier should shoe in a manner which will not cause footiness as i think its quite possible to do so
He has been fine for 3 years. Always gets the same farrier, but he sent one of his partners and then 3 days later Wooley is down with lami. Usual farrier came again on Friday, no probs so far. Like your bloke, no chance of admitting it was the farrier. Seven weeks of worry, box rest etc. he was out all night before this, now I cant let him out more than a few hours, I am so anxious.
i totally empathise, i was so stressed out when this happened to my girl very recently, you just dont expect it, i hope your horsey will be ok, my girl has come back fine now, its such a worry with a horse with sensitive feet x
