17hh, 13yr old thoroughbred gelding. Good in everyway, has hunted with Eggesford, Modbury and Dartmoor. Weatherbys registered. Has raced and been fired. Getting rid of as owner no longer has time to ride him. Not a novice rice, has showjumped too. Free to a good home.

In Devon.

PM me for more info if generally interested as I'd like to see this lovely chap go to a loving, permenant home.

The owner tried selling but no one interested in him in this market. They need him gone asap as the have no time for him but don't want to put him through an auction.

As far as I know he is well behaved but can get excited at the begining of the hunting season.

Would anybody like my three dogs, free to good home?

Will walk mud all over your kitchen, require lots of tidying up after and lots of grooming. Free to a good home, coz I haven't got the time to look after them anymore. If no takers, then pts on Thursday this week.

FFS, you wouldn't treat a dog like this.

Not having a go at you OP. Just saddened that someone would 'throw away' a horse, just because they haven't got the time anymore. And that Thursday is the deadline. Surely they should find the time to at least find the horse a nice home. Not just throw in the towel on Thursday.

Sorry, really made me cross. Just my opinion.

if hes still sound and rideable with plenty of life left in him why doesnt she give him to a rescue centre to rehome? Alternatively if he wont go ballistic why not keep him not ride him over winter and get him going again and sell in spring? Shes trying to offload a horse which is older than many want, and whilst some may take his hunting experience as great others may think hes been hammered, and coming into winter! I dont stand much stead by people who can kill what is clearly a good friend just because they dont have time to ride anymore :(.

At 13 he is just coming into his prime! TBH, there are worse things that being PTS, such as being given away, ending up in the wrong home and spending the rest of his life being trawled from auction to auction. My personal feeling is that PTS would be the best option for him unless he can be found a perfect forever home, which is what the OP is trying to to do for the owner by advertising him on here. I really hope that he can be re-homed to someone who will give him the love and care he needs. Rescue centres are overflowing at the moment.

I would just like to reiterate (sp?) that it is NOT my horse. I also do not know the owner or horse personally - I was just asked by a friend to put this on here to see if anyone can offer him a good home.

I do know that this horse has been for sale for a while and is cared for by the owners but unfortunately they no longer have the time for him. I've also been told he is a "typical ex-racing thoroughbred" and has been through a lot as many, if not all racers do and they do not want him to go from pillar to post therefore putting him down would be the kinder thing to do.

Saying that - he is a good horse and with regular work does go nicely.

Regarding transporting the horse. I do not know if they would transport him, but would have thought if the person was LOCAL that they would be happy to organise/help out as much as they can. As many people know transporting a horse a distance costs a lot hence why I put where he is/

Hope this answers all the questions so far.

I actually think he sounds like a nice horse, if we didn't already have too many I would definitely be interested in him for my daughter

The issue is many people dont see a 13 yr old as coming into his prime despite the actuality of it. I agree PTS is the kindest option for an unrideable horse, in pain, not suited to be field ornament etc but a healthy rideable horse, its a disgrace. a rescue centre would aim to find him a permanent home and many only loan the horses out on a permanent basis so they can continually watch their care, I know many are inundated atm with owners trying to offload before the winter :( but hopefully somewhere will have room for him, or better yet someone on here will home him for life :). All credit to the OP for trying to find him a home but I find the owner's decision of get rid or shoot it, rather horrific, I could NEVER do that.

Considering it usually costs a couple hundred to have the kennels 'dispose' of a horse you would have thought that the owner would be happy to transport horse to a good home.

Please do get in contact and I will pass your details on or I can give you some contact details.

I've had many people contact me that I do not believe will be suitable (not on here) so the more people that I can get interested the better!

I totally agree...

Thanks Loverly, we already have 2 ex racers, one that we tried to lwvtb earlier this year, with no luck, thankfully she is MORE happy to do nothing and we have a yard where she can be turned away with friends and plenty of roaming room but financially there is absolutely no way I could countenance another...but I will put the word out locally.

Little unfair! they are giving him away so may question why someone would want him who could not actually afford to collect him..

Because I my driving test after 1997 so don't drive a lorry or a trailer and would have to hire a van (expensive) or pay a transporter (more expensive).

I'm looking for a second horse to pass the time until Dorey gets better (which is unlikely to ever happen, so we're probably talking a forever home!) but there's no way I can randomly affort £200 to get one!

Especially as that could pay for enough hay to feed two horses all winter!!!!!

I beg to differ i had my pony go to kennels last week and it cost £50.00 they knocked £20.00 as am a regular follower.

I hunt with the same hunt as the person with this horse

At the risk of having to don a tin hat and take cover, and in all seriousness, if I couldn't keep mine, for whatever reason, then I would have them PTS, this includes my youngsters and the foal! Don't get me wrong, I would go through hell and high water to keep them safe but nobody knows what the future holds and not one of mine will ever be put in a position where they experience cruelty, or be put through another auction ring. I had always planned to loan if the worst happened but this is proving to be just as unsafe as selling and is no longer an option I would consider. At least with PTS you know they will never know cruelty!
