Just to cheer up everyone on a Friday - especially as its minus 7 up here!

What is your earliest photo? I think the old photos are the best!!

This is me on a pony called pepsi. My dad used to take me into the lead rein classes as he could run the fastest!

It did get better: this one's 2 years later, I think.

This is me and Jason, I was 13 here. Probably one of the first big shows I went to :) This was the practice fence for the showjumping.
The show was a one off in Blidworth. They held a raffle and the prize was ''A PONY'!!!! I can remember there was a lot of fuss and the RSPCA got involved. The pony was called Tango and was being donated from our yard, which at the time was Papplewick Equestrian Centre (before Angela Weiss moved there) Tango went to a good home!

Ha Ha! Brilliant :)

This is not my earliest pic, the earlist pic is of a 2 year old me in an all in one puffa type ensemble aboard a small, fat shitland called Dumpling.. However that is buried deep within the attic at my mums house :D

This is the earliest picture I have on my computer. This is me on my second pony 'Barbie' :D

This is me riding my pony Midnight. Its not the earliest photo I have, (I have many), but the oldest one that is available to me now. I was about 7 or 8, Middy was 28 and a total saint - til you put him into a stable or walked past the lawn! Barge out, hinges and bolts flying, or take me for a brisk walk across a manicured lawn. lol We did well at veterans, and he always kept me safe, taking me over my first courses and junior PC camp. He lived to 38.

Haven't got it on this computer (and think this thread will have died by the time I find it) But the very earliest picture is of me and my two sisters all sitting on the back of my mum's 15.2 horse - I was about 2-3 at the time.

Other pics of me are on my first pony with my attractive white hat with no silk - stylish. I also used to hack out in a polo neck and hacking jacket (8-10 years old) as I thought it was cool, and had obviously read too many Jill books :D

This is me aged about 8 on a horse called Golly at a riding school in Lyme Regis - I was on my summer holidays and mum and dad always got me a few lessons there.
Golly was a true gentle giant, and stood a whopping 18hh - hence the name - whenever anyone saw him for the first time they said...... 'Oh Golly!'. I doubt it would be so polite nowadays! :o)

That's me with my aunt and her horse, Rosa. It's a shame Rosa looks grumpy though - she was a star, and used to put up with me trying to groom her and muck out her stable too

Dig this!!!
Huge horse, tiny child, hat without a chinstrap. no gadgets and a saddle out of the ark (just like one of mine).

My first pony, Jackoby. She was about 25 here- my sister gave her to me as a 9th birthday present, she was a very sucessful show pony in her youth. This was my first ODE, my poor long-suffering non-horsey parents got it in the ear from the DC about our turnout (I did the dressage in the kimblewick and red hat silk as thats all we had!) We did win by a country mile though!!

This is me when i was about 9 at my first riding school. The pony was caled Candy. I loved her even though as soon as she was lead file she would leg it to the back of the ride :p Probs something to do with my terrible washing line reins! Or perhaps she hates my terrible dress sense

Aw, this is lovely and has brought a bit of a tear to my eyes. Have to say no early photos exist of me on a horse as although I rode since I was about 11 on and off, I didnt have my own horse till I was 42. However, I can share my first memory of horses. My dad was a police sergent and was working at Redland police station. This was during the sixties when each poice station usually had their own police horses. This station and Redlciffe and another I cant recall. As an xmas treat my mum and dad took me to see the horses and I remember being put onto Redclifffe's back. He was tied up in his stall and had a red and grey jute rug on. He didnt take any notice, he just carried on mumching hay in his manger. I remember stroking his long neck and wanting to ride him away. I have to say I think thats what started this all - I gather I was no more than about 2 years old. Redcliffe was a very famous police horse in the Bristol area and I can even remember an article about him in the local news when he retired. Goodnes me, they started something there.

Happy days ...........

I always wanted to be a mounted police officer when I was younger as I thought it was fab, was put off as I was led to believe you only get taken on if you are a non rider or have basic skills. not sure if that is true now but it put me off so I went into veterinary instead!

I love trips down memory lane sometimes, cheers me up when this weather is so awful!

Snap! However, I am 5 foot 5 and they only took female officers on if they were 5 foot 6 or over. Grew up with it, policing, in the blood as they say. I think the criteria has changed now as I have a good client who is a mounted officer with the Avon and Somerset and I do love to visit his charges from time to time. He has his own horses, so it must have changed. I ended up being an estate agent!!!!!!!!

aged about 5/6 on one of my early riding lessons, riding a pony called Moody, what am i wearing???

my first pony, Dodger, when I was about 10, everytime he went on grass he would buck me off!

replaced by Bramble who didn't even need grass as an excuse

and then Domino when I was about 13, he was quirky but superb!

I do have earlier pics I think but this is the only one on the computer: This is nutty, she was 25 when my mum bought her for £25 to save her from the knackers. She was going to the knackers beause she was a terrible bolter. My mum thought she would be a super pony for her 7 year old daughter (and she was!!)

Note, having a pony in the garden means you can wear your slippers when grooming. We appear to not own a headcollar or leadrope.

And my next pony - the beautiful Model: a 3 year old, but that's ok cause I'm 8 by now:

Just for Amusement, here is a very correct photo from the bad old days:
Note the velvet skul cap, elastic strap, jodhpurs, secure lower leg, & no BP!!
