Oh she is gorgeous! :D Haven't her legs gone long all of a sudden, and the little dipstick tail...!

Give it six months and your lawn will look like a moon crater. :p
 
I would love to eventually work her is harness suzysparkle but I don't know a whole load about it. I guess she will have to mature for a year or two before she is ready to do anything like that. Although she is enrolled in puppy training classes, how much use they'll be I don't know but we'll give it a good try...

bc I noticed only today how her legs had grown, her body will have some catching up to do. Please don't say that about the garden :). I have spent the last 6 mths doing up the house and garden and then I bought I husky, no logic in that at all is there :)
 
I noticed that Dax grew somewhat like a horse in that her back end would shoot up one week, making her look very gangly and unbalanced, and then the front end would shoot up again the next day. Oh, and they do grow into those ears, honest. :p

I'll let you live in ignorance about the garden! ;)

You can start introducing them to harness work at about six months or so, no weight pulling or running at that stage obviously, just learning to walk ahead of you and gee/haw/whoa/hike/on by (leave!). If we ever have another meet-up we'll have to rope Cyrus in and do a demonstration. :D
 
The ears are probably the last thing she will grow into. I measured her today and she stands floor to withers 12".
I think I will be happy to live in ignorance about the garden,she keeps nicking stones and bringing them in, I hope thats where it'll end (blissful ignorance) :)
Cyrus will have to give a demo, I'm excited about that now. However am going to have to look up the words gee/haw/hike before i teach them her :) Maybe she knows them already :)
 
Shes such a little sweetie looking forward to seeing her grow up further

A demo would be fun lol lol especially the harnessing a dog who bounces up and down like a jack in the box :D

A basic list of commands to teach her are

Gee - right

Haw - left

Hike - go

On by - ignore and pass something

Always give enough time for a dog to react to a command I never expect my dogs to react when they are on top of something such as a corner they could and would do the turn if i asked them to
 
Thanks very much for the word interpretation, I could probably get away with teaching her those words as she grows up so at least they'll be in her vocab for when she gives it a try.
We already do jack in the box impressions for tea time so good to know its not just my crazy dog!
 
Best thing for working would be go to a rally and meet people who do it! There's quite a few organisations that run them and rallies usually start in October. I have quite a few of them(!) as you can probably see and we run ours competitively a lot. Do her breeders not work theirs? Ideally the best people to ask. It's so much easier if you can go along with somone else. Most people are really helpfull with things like lending you a harness to try and get you started with running her.
We introduce harness at 6 months or so and start very short runs at about 8 months and go on from there. Commands are learned by running next to an established leader but also on the lead. We always start them within a team but this is much easier when you have a few. With our first 2 we just borrowed a older dog for the first run to give them the idea then we were off!
I take it you know all about not letting them off the lead / they will destroy gardens / catch and kill rabbits etc and so on? That and they need a lot of exercise!
One warning is it's addictive. Our last 2 holidays have been to Alaska (in winter) and we don't spend money on much more than our pack!! We also have a Collie and he runs in harness as well!

I expect it is infinitely easier with an experienced dog to hand, and one of these days I'm going to turn up on Cyrus's doorstep (:p) but I've had success teaching madam to pull me around on a bike so it's not impossible with one dog. Sadly the heat has put a stop to that at the moment but come this October she'll be 14 months and we'll begin covering more distance then. Terribly excited, now to persuade the OH to buy me a Pawtrekker scooter for Christmas... :eek: Or even better, one of these - check out the name, it must be fate!

Of course you can do it with one! We usually have one or two running in the bike or scooter class. Have a new laptop and not got photos transferred yet but think I might have a couple on photobucket!

Haha I was just checking that scooter out last night cant go wrong with a cudos

Suzy you truely do live in husky heaven we got to run on snow down here but not that much and missed aviemore this year too due to lack of transport, we`re looking at moving north of the border in next couple of years
 
Is she going to be a sled dog?! I'm happy to hear this :) I know so many husky owners that have them because they're pretty (which... they most definitely are!). I did a small stint at a sled dog kennel in scotland and ever since I promised myself if I ever bought one they'd be running :)

Goodness she is about the most beautiful pup I have ever seen and they grow into the most gorgeous adult dogs! If Huskies were not such demanding dogs I would be soooooo tempted to add to my troubles!
 
Hi yes, stargirl88 we think we'll give it a go, what's the point of having one and not trying it..:)
Sadly the breeders do not run their dogs so I dont have any contacts that way, does anybody know how I find out about places running around cheshire?
