We have had sisters shiney new horse for 10 days, tonight on the way to a lesson he cut his leg, cue trip to the vets, 12 staples and 10 days box rest, with the hope the staples hold...
He cut himself on the plain rubber, no sticky out bit, side of the trailer...
HE essentially skinned the outside of his front leg, not sure how, they banged a bit in the trailer but not too bad really. Basically the staples are to hold the flap on and let it heal.
Will take a nice picture tomorrow when the bandage gets changed and I get to inject him with penicillin. (there you go only_me ;p
He must be a wussy TB type then is he. Flo's soft almost furrless TB legs are always getting cut at this time of year. Our Hummungamare's legs have half grown their winter coat already, she looks after herself much better.
Good luck with the healing (and injecting). I am not squeamish about blood, but am a bit about needles.
Lol, sister did feint at the vets whens tapling began ;p
He's 5/8s ID, looks like he is just accident prone! TBF it is a a nasty wound but still beyond myself with how he could manage to do it!
Thanks for the luck, he already has a huge car so no worries about working hunter anyway
I really do feel sorry for you about your horse, I hope he gets better soon. I just wondered if you knew that there are still one or two people who might find your thread title slightly offensive?
Obviously it's totally up to you how you title your threads, but New Horse hurts himself would have been more informative and not risked hurting anyone's feelings.
Anyway, hope he gets better soon.

Lucky horse, his own car
I have a theory that animals belonging to vet students or their immediate family have a mission in life to give said students loads of practical experience! Good luck with penicillin jabs, daughter found doing other peoples animals no problem but hated doing Murph.
Oh dear, what bad luck!
I have learnt to expect every new horse I get to have an injury within the first few weeks just to get us started on the right track
