Just a bit of fun - New bits of tack. etc that is far better than the old stuff, and old stuff which is better than its new 'improved' self!

a few examples

Breeches and jods that no longer have that awful seam under the knee - they either cut off circulation, rubbed or came in the wrong place - AND didnt stretch!

New lightweight hats - better than the heavy skull caps of old, with the lovely plastic chin piece.

Old leather headcollars which are better quality than the new ones.

New leather which is not the same quality as the old - unless you pay an awful lot of money!

Those horrible nickel bits and stirrups that bent! - usually with your foot still in!

liked the old 'strap and buckle jod boots - always looked smart and were good quality, but had nice skiddy leather soles - great in the nickel stirrups (with no treads)

those really good rope - cottony halters - can you still buy them?

half panel, lined lined saddles - hard to stay in and hard to clean - especially when my dad decided to clean mine with shoe polish - exit one child!

those skinny white 'lampwick' girths which cut ponies in half and were a devil to clean.

nylon girths - also a devil to clean and the buckles always went rusty.

Plenty more - someone take over please !:D:D:D

Good old, well-worn leather never beats the new stuff.

As pointed out, good light weight, ventilated hats - less helmet head :D

Lightweight, more water-proof rugs

That's all I can think of at the mo... xx

Dont miss :-

rigid tree saddles...
Those non stretch cavalry twill jods
canvas NZ rugs
fake fur numnahs of all different bright colours

Miss:-

Decent English leather bridles without a flash noseband.
Jods that arent made from jogging bottoms material or nylon(mine just fray and dont last)
sweat rugs- I like my thermatex but my horses stayed cooler when travelling in a summmer sheet with sweat rug underneath.
decent nylon headcollars that dont break or fray round the holes

cotton summer sheets in lovely colours- hard to get now.Everything seems to be fleece! I wont miss fleece when it has gone either. Picks up every bit of hay!
Haynets that lasted for more than one season.

fleece is the devils work. I miss nice woolen rugs. They cost a fortune now and you can only get them in fake whitney stripe. I used to have a lovely bright green one with a leather strap at the front :(

Oh boy, do I remember those horrible jods with the seam under the knee, parents would not buy new pair and the join ended up over your knee digging in. New Zealand rugs - ugh, jute night rugs, half panel "one saddle fits all" with the bars coming through the seat saddle. String girths, shining stirrups with brasso, plaited string reins, plastic "Pony Club" coloured brbrowbands etc. The list is endless but I will quit before start to feel old
