Just thought, as I was talking about this little mare earlier, that you (and some others who remember her) might actually be interested in seeing how she is doing now, just a few months on.

Well the mare turned 5 years old a few weeks ago and we took her to her first show two weekends ago. She came home with 4 x 5th rosettes and 3 x 2nd place rosettes in the hunter/jumper division

i actually can remember her tia..

and a few of the pics you posted of her were none too flattering....

and yes, i did eat my hat....

but isnt this what this forum is all about eh??

i gave my opinion at the time, it was discussed we all moved forwards..

i could have said "OMG, Tia...fabulous condition, she's a world beater blah blah blah"

and as you've said..i wasn't the only one with doubts..

same as yourself, we all post replies as we see fit AT THAT MOMENT IN TIME..

I for one am not going to post something just because someone wants to read it..

i just cant see the point of posting something nice just because....

i too own a real life "fugly"....

Anyhoo, I am off to the races tonight - going to see one of the baby racehorses who lived with me for 2 years; she's a big girl now. Will try to get some photos or her and maybe will pop a small bet on her.

How did she manage to win 7 rosettes at 1 show - did they double up in some classes - you didn't jump her in 7 classes did you?

The trouble is, IMO, you have an objective, critical eye over your own and other peoples horses (and you don't mind upsetting people!!) but a lot of people seem to see horses, especially their own, through rose tinted specs, and if anyone should question their "stunningness" they get very offended. Usually I would say this is their problem, but in the case of the mass debate a couple of pages on, the poor girl did only ask for opinions on colour, not conformation or cuteness. Some more sensitive souls would never call their own, or anyone else's horses fugly. I actually look forward to the day I get a bo**ocking from you. Is that wrong??!!

lol, might be a little sadistic!

I know our scrooge is fugly and we had a "clydesdale" who was the ugly horse is the world but he was also the sweetest and worked for a long time before he sucumbed to his conformation, he's now retired with police horses and living it up!

Truffles; yes she has changed a lot. She is far more toned/muscled and has lost that dreadful grass belly.

DD; I don't jump the pony, my daughter does, and she competes in hunter/jumper divisions (as I said in the original post

- there are many aspects to divisions; style, equitation and jumping, judging on riders ability and on horses ability both on the flat and over jumps, to name but a few. A division = a few classes; generally with 20 -30 horses competing in each class within the division. Hunter/jumper = nothing like showjumping. Hope that helps

So did your daughter enter the ring 7 different times or do you get all those rosettes from only going in the ring once?

Hunter/Jumper is more about looking pretty and keeping the same stride???
