Does your horse have a dorsal stripe? No
Did he/she ever have a dorsal stripe that you knew of? Very faintly, he has other 'dun characteristics' too, such as light hair one either side of his mane and tail
Is there such a thing as a 'grey dun'? apparently http://www.bluebirdlane.com/colour.html

Thanks
Horsk, Russian Trakhener, used to be almost black, but dappled out, and is now almost white

No she doesn't have a dorsal stripe and hasn't as long as I've known. She is only three so most likely not.

There was a thread recently discussing the genetics of grey horses with links to a couple of interesting articles on it. Basically it is dominant and almost a disease to be grey so I wouldn't be entirely suprised if a dun could have the grey gene. I'll try and find the link to the thread. I had a copy of the paper it references but because Wiley science are tight I can't access it without paying again. Grr.

Was really interesting though as the owner of a grey horse.

My first pony is a very dark grey as far as a none horsey person would say, however he is actually a mousey dun. Kind of the same colour as a donkey!!
Does your horse have a dorsal stripe? YES
Did he/she ever have a dorsal stripe that you knew of? YES
Is there such a thing as a 'grey dun'? I DONT KNOW BUT WOULD MAYBE SAY YES!!

Ok, recently found out that my mare is a buckskin, NOT a dun. I know you want to know about greys, but I found out that there is a true dorsal stripe, as in duns, then there is counter shading, which looks like a dorsal stripe, but isn't. Colour genetics are so confusing to me, and there are a lot of grey areas (no pun intended lol!!!), when I was younger there were fewer colours than there are now, and I don't know if that's because we know more about genetics, or the vets have been inventing their own on passports!!!!!!

For instance, I was taught a brown horse with brown points, mane and tail and muzzle was a dark brown, no matter how black it might look at certain points in the year, however, the vet put it down as a 'Liver' which I had never heard. The only liver in my day was a liver chestnut, which is, of course, entirely different.
This 'Liver' horse was also owned by a supercilious pain in the posterior, who knew nothing and thought she'd got one over on me (thanks very much mr vet!) :)

I think the term may be cream dun but I am prepered to be corrected by the genetics experts. the one I remember most is Castle Comet, the highly successful Connemara Stallion, he looks quite grey but is a dun

My friend has a highland pony that she describes as cream dun and again, she appears grey but has a clear dorsal stripe.
