1st Pony - rode her that day as she was safe as houses and I dont think she realised she had actually moved!
2nd Pony - rode her the next day as she had a bit of a journey to get to mine. Took her to a PC camp after a week though as she was an old hand and helped us bond really well.
3rd Pony - Left her a good 3/4 weeks as she was only 4, very nervous and needed it taken very slowly.
I gave H a week off - he had come from a riding school where I used to ride him anyhow. and was stabled on old place then turned out 24/7. he appreciated it
First pony - I was riding her for about a week before I bought her, as she was in the village I live in and we took over renting the field she was in too
Second pony (well horse!) - I gave her a day to settle and then got on with it, but she is incredibly laid-back and chilled about everything!
Mine was off the track & very underweight when I got him. That's why I left it for longer than 2 weeks - just so he could settle & put on some weight.
Next day - he had already been over to my yard though as facilities at the vendors yard weren't up to scratch so I tried him once there & once at my yard!
He also only had to travel a short distance to get to me - about 6 or 7 miles. If he'd had a journey of a few hours then I might have left him a day or so
First horse couldn't settle and had serious issues getting used to the move so gave him a couple of days to chill. Second horse rode the next day, totally not fazed by the move and was happy to be out.
Depends on the horse, if it's a competition horse that's used to going out and about the I ride the same day, for them it's no different to going to a show, and I often find they are more settled after they've been ridden. I remember taking one of my old ponies to a pc rally an hour after we picked him up and we both had a great time. In the other hand if the horse wasn't used to travelling and was very unsettled then I might be inclined to leave it a couple of days until it's more confident in its surroundings.
Mine was left till the next day, but only because he didnt have shoes on until then. If he had then i would have rode him the same day.
A loan pony i had got riden the first day i got him, it helped to stop him running riot in the field for the first time as he was abit tired.
