For people with horses out on loan

The insurance should be in the owners name as it still remains their horse (particularly in the unfortunate incident of a total loss).

However, who arranges it/ pays for it will depend on the agreement.

I pay for my horses insurance that was my choice though I could not bear the thought if something going dreadfully wrong with him the loanee giving him back and me having to worry about vets bills:( as it happens my boy needed scans and stuff while on loan my loaner has stuck with my boy through thick and thin an payed the vets herself I did give her a claims form but she paid out of her own pocket. It is peac of mind for me for the sake of 35 per month

I organise and pay for it and owner repays half each month. Am hoping to buy her though!! Insured for all the activities we want to do, public liability and vets.

Insured to do all activities, public liability and vets bills.
Not for LOU or PTS because when I went though this with my last mare trying to claim LOU and PTS they wouldn't pay out without the mare travelling to a vetinary college and I wasn't willing to travel her for over 3hrs with a slipped disk in her back so had to forefit the money. (Despite 2 vets agreeing on diagnosis and course of action.. and comunitcating with the insurance company themselves..) So I think its a waste of money to insure for LOU and PTS when it seems nigh on impossible to claim for!
So I don't bother. If I can't afford to have my own horse PTS if needs be then I wouldn't have one!

ETA: My mum helps me pay for insurance. I pay everything else though.

2 ways, either loaner insures and pays,

or owner insures and loaner pays .

BUT in either way make sure both the owner and loaner are named on the policy. if you take the route of loaner insures and your named then make sure you see a copy of the document policy.

i have done the loaner insured and i was named loaner was paying but after mare came home I took over the payments. and had to make a large claim after getting the horse back in my care. (was all complicated) but had no problems with the insurance company excepting the claim.
