I've wracked my brain and three things have altered.

1, I let them have a bit of fresh grazing.
2, she's been trimmed.
3, I have started to feed brewers yeast.

So, the first thing that I did was to restrict the grazing again. This has not helped.

My next step is to remove the BY from her diet, but it really seemed to be reducing her anxiousness (she's been very stressed recently and was marching up and down the paddock :(). So it will be a shame if I can't feed it to her, but possibly her newfound calmness is unrelated to the BY anyway?

If that doesn't help, then I guess it's the trim that's caused the problem, but it didn't look any different to normal.

* She's still sound in her paddock, the sand school and on flat tarmac but she is being very careful over stones.

If restricting grass didn't help I can suggest either thrush or trim was a bit much for her at this time?

I can't see any signs of thrush. Oh poops - it probably was the trim.

Should I lay off the roadwork for a week or so to give her hooves a chance to grow?

If it was the trim she should be better in 5 - 10 days.

Stick to comfortable surfaces but remember the more movement she gets, the more quickly she'll grow the tissue back she needs.

IF it was the trim, don't fret. Even the most sympathetic trim can be, 'wrong place, wrong time'. It could be grass or a body issue and she just needed the extra tissue that was there.

Did you displease the Barefoot Gods by being smug at any point?

I have been very proud of her - that probably does verge on smugness, so yes the BF Gods probably felt that I needed to be reminded that it's not all smooth sailing.
