I've made some discoveries which I thought I'd share

For warm feet this winter I have three suggestions
1. Microwave your socks before you put them on when you come on from the cold. A revelation .
2. Genuine Uggs. Preferably without socks. They work.
3. Bama Sokkets. Weird little boot socks, available from most online retailers and also local farmer stores. AMAZING. No more cold toes. And no more cold soles when hacking.
Again, can be worn without socks if they make your boots too tight.

You're welcome 😊

Wonderful! I would add these to the list. Disposable (not so good) and would probably be expensive for every day but I'm going to try them this weekend hunting. I used a pair last Sunday for standing beside a cold football field and they were amazing - at first too hot, and after half an hour perfect - the rest of me was frozen but my feet were blissfully warm (and they last 8 hours, so kept them going all day).

I hadn't heard of the Bama Sokkets but I was just thinking the other day I really need to sort my feet getting so cold out hacking so I'll give them a go! Thanks for the recommendation!

I always warm boots and socks on the radiator before I go out in the cold, I keep my laces undone and the boot loose while I drive, and my feet are SO much warmer in my widest barefoot shaped shoes (though with a decent sole depth or at least thick woollen felt insoles), reducing blood flow with any sort of compression on my feet is a killer. Things that don't keep me warm enough - neoprene linings, normal snow boots, sheepskin insoles, heat holder socks...you name it I've tried it. Even 400g Thinsulate lined snow boots from the US can't keep me warm completely. Coldest feet in the world I swear!

I bought heated socks a couple of years back, the first year they worked well though you only get a few hours of even the lowest setting but last year, year two, they lost charge super quickly and they're not insulating in themselves (short sighted!).

My warmest socks are Idolo, super squishy loop back walking socks, expedition weight. If you get clammy feet also use coolmax liners, though the thin thermal liners from Bridgedale are pretty good too.

There endeth the cold feet gospel according to this saddle fitter wot has to stand around on concrete a lot!

I have the bama sokkets, revolutionary! They also stop sweaty welly feet. Have been using them for 3 or 4 winters now after recommendation from a fellow livery.

I have a version of the bama but didn’t get on with them.

I love my battery powered socks though, though I think one of the batteries has died after 2 years which made the cycle in a bit chilly on one foot today

Have plenty of room in your boots and don't wear too many socks. Allowing plenty of wiggle room for toes makes a difference.

I always did this, I have the widest snow boots I could find anywhere (waterproof ones) but the Altra shoes I have are incredibly warm considering they have no insulation at all. I think we don't realise quite how much ordinary shoes, no matter how wide, squish our toes.

I also get the coldest feet ever so reading with interest.
I have a pair of outdoor slippers (uggs) and although very ugly they are great but can’t wear them for work when I’d need them.

I bought some wet suit neoprene socks, warm and dry if your boots are prone to leaking. Buy a much bigger size than normal since you don't want them skin tight, I wear over my socks.

I also bought some heated insoles. Powered by a powerbank so stay hot for ages but you do have a wire up each leg. Obviously a faff but great for anytime you're stood around.

I have Nordic socks and a thin pair of cotton socks over the top, and that is proving to be a brilliant combination. With the insoles there isn't too much room for anything else inside my wellies, but I am investigating other thermal boots - not easy as achilles issues rule out anything with too solid a back of heel.

I've got those but my feet were frozen solid riding this morning 🥶

Yes sadly they're not very warm but pretty clammy for me!

I've had heated socks but the not insubstantial batteries really only performed decently the first winter which isn't exactly environmentally friendly and the socks are not at all warm when the batteries run out.

So much of this stuff is made from oil (ie synthetic fibres) and other nasties.
