For those disgusted by the death of the trotter

It just churns my stomach to watch them. Although the horses in the vids DO look a MILLION times better than the ones around here. Only some of the ones near me are proper pacers - the others just trot really fast. They regularly race them down the duel carriageway and whip cars as they pass. The horses are in no way fittened up for what they do -they're just harnessed up of a weekend and taken out and hammered. The state they come back in is just sickening. They're always very near to collapse.

Gonna go and root through YouTube now and see what i can find. Maybe they're stupider than we think..........

The pressure put on leg joints is enough when it is done on a surface, let alone on a road. I have seen it first hand, no regard for the safety of the horse or for other road users.

i agree with jmo7 that is some serious pacer.
no more cruel/demanding than the grand national.
or even continous show jumping/cross country

I have to say that I used to know people that did road racing and their horse where part of the family! They had the best of everything!! They where fittened like a hunter would be, walked for weeks then jogging, then short blasts of speed building up over time. Those horses were mega fit, and yes worth mega money. The amount of money that is bet on these horses well, its silly money 25k on one race I watched.
But as my dad has always said 'there's good and bad in every group.' Some look after their horses others don't!
That coloured stallion is somthing else though, wow!!!

And to think I keep trotting on the road to an absolute minimum
crazy.gif
Nothing will change my mind on this activity - it's not a sport as far as I am concerned - I think it is hideous and pity the poor horses being thrashed along like that. Disgusting

Was walking to the field with my horse the other day when the window cleaner stopped me and said did I want 2 horses. They were trotters but were not fast enough. He said the pikeys wanted them but he did not want them to have them as they would beat them. He wanted them to have a good home. he must have smelt me out because I have ended up with 5. I had to decline his offer.

It doesn't look like much of a "sport" to me.
I read an article very recently about trotters, and it said they are very emotionally disturbed and come with a lot of baggage. This was regarding re-training them.

I can understand why they'd be so disturbed, it looks horrible.

mr sunny, I have a troter who came over from belguim who I retrainined, I just wondered where you read the article as I would be really interested in reading it

Not entirely sure I agree with mad pikeys on a dual carriageway, but also think neither of those looked like a rescue case.

I always include trotting (at a reasonable pace, not like the vid!) on roads as part of my fittening routine to protect tendons.

One of mine is an ex trotter who was badley beaten. Ive had her over ten years and she is still very spooky but she is very good to handle on the ground now but still not to ride.

Dare not look at the vids.
The horses are worth many thousands and sell for many thousands.
Some people do, do something. We have and do.
It is hard as we get no support from Police or RSPCA.
They have a short raceing life then breed.
We took in an ex pacer from a traveller. He paid £27, 000 for her.
We found her, the RSPCA said she had a week to live and left it. Will post before n after pics.
She even got placed showing.
She brought me a lot of trouble. I was even kidnapped and thought i was going to be killed as i protected the mare.

There are some brave people on here.
I'm afraid I am not a fan of the Grand National either, we compete and are not stupid with our horses but I think they have different values in life to me.

The other aspect is that it is illegal to race any vehicle on the road, plus I would have thought that the drivers of the 4x4's were breaking any number of traffic laws, not only driving without due care and attention.

Bloody disgrace, but unfortunately unless they cause serious accident the police aint interested!!(dosnt make them any money!!

Bit harsh. The police can only act within their powers, this is something the RSPCA should be showing an interest in, afterall it is their duristiction!!

i agree with both partys on this due to the fact that
both partys should work together to resolve these problems
to get these horses taken off them and to be band from keeping any animals
its a disgrace for the animal rescue and police to let this carry on they call there self s horses rescue my a*** non experienced people could do better

How refreshing, a horse that is in correct gear and nothing more, partaking in an activity in which he is obviously interested and keen on who is absolutely stunning, obviously the pride and joy of his owners.
I'm afraid I'm with some of the others. No less cruel than NH racing, no less demanding than a XC course and no less well kept than any of mine were.
Whyever would the RSPCA be interested in that?

well put it this way how would you fill if someone took your horse chased it around till its nearly dead then stick it in a cart , run it up and down roads.
getting nearly knocked over by cars
,to then getting smacked to go faster
then either slammed back in the field
or even more delightful dead ???
i bet you would not agree with it then
at least when your out on a cross country course they will pull you up if the horse cannot compete any more so much i can say for these file people .
there are horrible gypsys out there that give the good ones bad names

Heck of a lot more regulation going on in cross country and the Grand National than in having trotting races on often, illegal roads ie motorway!

were you watching the same videos???? since when have you classed being well looked after as trotting down dual carriageways going at break neck speed, being constantly whipped and nearly getting killed in the process. what a ridiculous statement that was.

I wonder how many of you have been to Stow on the Wold horse fair and seen these horses close up? The majority of them are a mess. 2 and 3 year olds, underweight, scarred and clearly petrified. And have you seen the bearing rein used on the harnesses? The horse's heads are winched up to a completely unnatural position while they are being made to trot at full speed. I did see the RSPCA step in at one point and make the driver take a bearing rein off of a horse, but that was after a lot of complaints from the public, and of course it was just a drop in the ocean compared to any other action they might have taken.

The trouble is, that particular community see trotting horses as something at the very heart of their culture, and seeing as the police or RSPCA won't even go into a traveller camp to investigate possible stolen goods or animal abuse or anything else, it's highly unlikely that they are going to step in to stop the trotting races.

A change in the law? Nah, wouldn't work, they are above the law, as we all know.
