on a forum I go on the question was what food was best for a whippet, I responded with raw, and how well my two do on it, loads of others said similar, and then the comment that made me spill my tea......." I feed my 2 Royal Canine.. Refuse to give them raw meat.. They reckon feeding dogs raw meat invites them to worry sheep.. I feed all my dogs Royal Canine and my 2 GSH have never been sick in their 8 and 7 years as my 2yr old whippet also.. I do give them cooked chicken every evening..2

So feeding raw encourages sheep worrying, what happens if I feed beef or chicken :) I have never ever ever heard that what a fantastic reason for feeding crap:)

I have this too, I have a friend who moved to west wales, she comes up now and again and can fill my very large freezers with loads of free raw meat and bones she gets from her local butchers.
She also went to an abatoir down there, they had a skip full of meaty bones and marrow bones they don't use, sending them off to be rendered down, she had free pickings out of it for her dogs.
When she started asking around WHY no one it seems in her area was feeding raw the general response by farmers, land owners, butchers, horsey people was that they believe that if you feed raw meat to dogs it encourages them to attack sheep, cattle etc!!!
I fell about laughing and it means more free meat and bones for my dogs!

I get this too. I have gundogs, and was told that it would give them hard mouths and encourage them to eat the birds that they bring back to me.

I can report back that it does not ;)

I have a chicken who likes to try and live in the house with the dogs. My three dogs accept her and know not to pester her as she isn't shy about giving them a quick peck if she thinks they are in her way.

So given that they eat alot of raw chicken she should have been munched along time ago!!
