For those of you who are yard owners who run DIY livery, what rules do you have in relation to liveries farriers coming to the yard i.e. does the livery have to be present and if not who cleans up all the mess?

For those of you who are DIY liveries do you organise for your farrier to come when you are there and if not who gets horse in etc and cleans up?

Sorry for all the questions

I am usually there, but there are times when I have to leave the horse in and farrier will tie him up outside, shoe him and put him back without me there.

Obviously when I'm there I sweep up, if I'm not there I sweep up when I'm next at the yard (usually later that day) but quite often someone else will have already swept up.

A few people do this, some people every time, no one ever complains. I think its a relatively minor issue, as long as you usually sweep up on a daily basis. Afterall, most people on DIY have to work and do other things so I think people are sympathetic of that.

I'm DIY on a private yard and if I'm not available the farrier will shoe my horse, turn out and tidy up! He's awfully good.

I'm often not there when my farrier comes. He sweeps up any mess in a pile, and dumps it by my stable. I pick it up when I arrive.

Current yard:
I am there when my horse is shod and I clean up my mess

Previous Yard (DIY/competition yard)
Everyone used the same farrier, the guys who ran the yard were always having several of theres shod at same time as mine. Most of the time farrier would drag my horse out an shoe and put her back. Sweeping was done by whoevers horse was last to be shod.

I am there and I clean up.... If I am not able to be there then the farrier is willing to get on with it and from memory (long time ago) he did clear up.... but it wouldnt worry anyone if he didnt

Infact the lady with the stables next door to mine, ties her ponies up and picks their feet out right outside my door and never clears it up!!! I sweep it all back to her side though... so she has to eventually !!!

I am normally there for the farrier. I always clean up afterwards as most farriers when in training went sick on the afternoon the instruction on 'use of the broom' was given.
