For those of you who have lost your confidence!

Well done you!

Can I add to the Good News, yesterday I had a lesson booked on my YO's horse and after I had got him ready my Trainer was faffing about so without thinking I hopped up, and started to work him in, 10 minutes later when Jan walked in and said " so we have achieved being in Synch then"? I realized that;

a) I had not taken the Rescue Remedy
b) I flying totally solo
c) I was really enjoying it

So good when the good old mojo comes back

Well done. Wish I could get my confidence back.Ever since I fell off few years back,Ive been a bit nervous of riding him,but he has since been proffessionally broken in and I was riding him during that time, now that hes back (2 years) Ive hardly been on him.My 13 year old is ok on him (lead rein) but its me,not my horse. Any ideas how I can get my confidence back????

Please don't give up!!
Today i went for a two hour hack, and even...... wait for it...
......poped a couple of logs out on the forest (very, very small ones) and had a short canter!!! :D
It has taken some weeks of riding out at walk with a friend, until i grew a little bored with the pace, but i am getting there, WHOOOOOOOPPIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!

So if i can loose my nerve, but eventually conquer my fear at the ripe old age of ,*coughs* 46 :D , then so can you!
Take it slowly, and onley go to the next stage when you are really ready, and have someone with you who gives you confidence.

Thats fantastic news!!

Your sig ALWAYS makes me laugh! you have a "well ard" sig and always come across as the nicest person hehehehehehehehe

Well done Fii on regaining the confidence :D

For anyone else fighting to regain their confidence I wish you well :)

Mine took a bit of a battering 6 weeks ago when I was having a jumping lesson at the RS and came off and the horse landed on me :( Luckily nothing was broken but had some wicked bruises and lumps which haven't all gone away yet. After about 4 weeks I got back on one of their horses and felt so sick and nervous going into their school but getting on my own horse and having a 10 minute pootle was the opposite. Initial nerves at getting on but once on board no worries  Kept persevering at the RS and managed to last out an hours group lesson but the nerves are still there for riding at the RS :( Don't think its the riding I think I have lost confidence in the RI I had :(

Going to ride my own horse this morning and can't wait :D

Well done!! I really struggle with my confidence. Am perfectly happy having lessons in the school, but hacking really does stress me out. Especially as we have had a couple of 'incidents' the last couple of times we have been out. A herd of deer sent her into orbit and we jogged and snorted all the way home which took about 20 minutes, and last week when out with my riding instructor she got spooked by some workmen and scooted off with me in canter. It wasn't for too long and I pulled her up okay, and I am sure that the more confident of us would have just laughed it off and not even thought about it, but it has done nothing to make me feel any braver even though I dealt with it. But I just grit my teeth, continue having lessons with my wonderful, extremely patient instructor and just hope that one day it will all click into place.

Do you have a friend or RI who can lead you around on your horse? just to start so that you get the feel of him w'ill also feeling safe and secure.
Get some help, somebody, who you trust and gives you confidence, do things slowly, and onley progress onto the next thing when you are ready, dont let anyone rush you, or make you feel like you arent progressing fast anough!

Congratulations Fii, that must be such a fantastic feeling!
Now come and give me a hand getting mine back please! :D:(

I rarely ride anymore due to lack of confidence and got on my liveries new horse who is only 6 but a total saint (so far) I only sat on her to make sure the saddle was ok for me as i weigh more then her and saddle fitter made me walk her around the field and i was like , i really don't want to be doing this! Two days ago i went to a equestrian centre and tried western. I had an oh my god moment when i saw my horse, she was 16.1hh and i havn't ridden a horses that big since i was a teenager!
It was a fantastic experience, i soon forgot how big the horse was and wasn't nervous at all. I actually enjoyed riding a horse for the first time since i can remember. I'm definately going to do it again. I recommend it if your having a confidence crisis or lack confidence full stop!

So wonderful to hear all your stories, I am sure they will inspire a lot of people!
I have been up and down with my lad in the last while, but I think everything is starting to fall into place- I took him over some logs for the first time ever yesterday and had a wonderful ride up the hill where we cantered for one of the first times, in fact we had several canters, even a onehanded one where I was filming the lass ahead of me!! So chuffed we have finally got where I want to be...I love my pony :D

Oh isn't it lovely to hear how many of us struggle, keeps on going and then get where they want to be eventually. We are all so lucky to have the opportunities we do and its so good to hear of everyone's successes however small, we all appreciate every step towards our goals and as someone very wisely recently said to me, it is far braver to have fear and keep on going and overcome it little by little than to be one of those lucky fearless people who didn't have the challenges we have all faced to get where we are trying to be (hope that makes sense). Well done to you all and hopefully me too soon!!

Second this!

I started Western lessons on a saint of a schoolmaster who is also totally blind but thats another story!

My thought process was "oh well if it all goes T*ts Up I can always grab the horn" but strangely you feel so secure in the western saddle and and my instructor has worked so hard on drilling into me a safe secure seat that I never feel the need.

Did my first one handed jog last week and loved it
