Could you tell me how many bales of straw you use a week to maintain your beds?

We have standard size stables, with rubber mats covering the front third, then bedding on the remaining 2 thirds.

The horses are stabled overnight only, approx 5pm - 7am and are both relatively clean.

Thanks

In one of my stables use about half a bale a week, but horse is very clean and tidy. In the other stable use about 2 bales, pony in that stable is really messy and also a pig and eats a fair bit of it, he thinks the banks are edible pillows lol

When we used small bales, I allowed half/bale/horse/day - so 3.5 bales/horse a week - :O

now we're on big bales and one round bale lasts 5 horses 5 days, a large 6 string bale lasts a week.

We have rubber in all the stables and they have normal full straw beds on top - they're all 17hh plus and need the depth of bed to sleep on (and the depth of straw to absorb wet!)

I use the big straw bales and use 4 slices a week. I have a terribly messy gelding ut do find the bigger the bed the cleaner he is.

When I had mine on straw he either got (when fully mucked out) 3 slices of large bale straw a week or (when deep littered) a small bale of straw per week.
When I had the other pony as well a heston bale of straw used to last me a winter as she was quite clean.

I found using straw for an average small horse, not particularly mucky, and me being extremely picky when mucking out [each bale cost £5.00!] that I used a small bale per week when stabled at night. Horse does not eat it, so I have good solid banks which use up to two bales to start off with. The thick mats are smelly and slippy, so i would use a small amount of pellets to absorb wet and reduce smell. This would reduce the amount of straw used.
