Hi, i need to find a someone to ride my mare a couple of times a week - ive placed ads at my local equine places and so far no joy- where did you find your sharer/rider??

on paper i thought what i was offering sounded pretty good- ride 2/3 times a week, plenty of bridleways, no costs involved or mucking out/chores all for free. before i spend a fortune on the various websites to advertise on can anyone advise me which ones they've found most succesful?

thanks

Depends on the wording of the advert, the type of mare you have etc. Sites like Preloved seem to be pretty good. Word of mouth is also a good one, tell a couple of "well connected" friends and see if they know anyone,

I found 1 from her wanted ad at the local feed shop and 1 was recommended to me by some friends. When I shared my RI told me about the horse and introduced me to his owner.

I may have another sharer now (currently only got 1) and she's been helping me with my horses when I've been away and is now helping me restart my youngster.

I'd ask through friends at the yard first - word of mouth is best. Then free ads, preloved, local tack shop ads, friday ads and adtrader were what I used.

thanks for the replies- would love to find someone through word of mouth- so much the better if its a friend of a friend rather than someone you have no idea over.

im in south northants ( 5 mins junction 15 M1)

I found mine on preloved 18 months ago and she is one of the best things that ever happened to my horses and me. We have ended up with another horse just for her and sharing yard duties for the herd.

Pet shops are meant to be good places, and riding schools. Tack and feed shops are bad places as most poeple without a horse do not regularly buy fly spray and horse feed!!! I have been round this one several times so please be prepared to be let down once or twice before finding the perfect person.

Oh and please consider under 18s, I would have firm discussion with a parent about you not being responsible for them while they are at the yard prior to agreeing anything but consider them please, my sharer is still not quite 16 but very responsible and capable so that paid off. She'll probably say similar on here later!!
