For those of you without easy access to a stable

Do you have your horses teeth done in the field?
My vet is'nt keen on doing it outside, and although i can see what he means, it is going to be a right pain in the ass to get this horse over to the yard.

So those of you that don't have stables, how do you cope.

As someone who is waiting for an operation after a horse had a tantrum while having its teeth done, knocked me against a wall and then fell on me, I can see a lot of pros to doing things out in the open!

Could you fence a part of the field off, like a corral, to do it in?

Perhaps that is just your vets personal preference ? Its sometimes easier to work on an uncooperative horse outside the stable with a handler holding, so the horse doesn't feel hemmed in. If the weather is extremely bad, I would have some sympathy though,its not fun for anyone in a storm. However, with teeth you could book for the better months of the year with a vet/EDT who doesn't mind working outdoors.

Horsegirl. i don't want to change vets, i wonder if haveing to sedate would make a difference to it being done outside.

My EDT mentioned the possibility of a horse freaking out while the gag is holding the mouth open and running amok as his reason for never doing a horse outdoors. He is very experienced and is the only EDT who can do my horse without a tranquiliser so I rate his handling skills highly.

Yes this is something i was thinking about as well, although i think he would have to be sedated even if he was in the stable, as he has a fear of just about everything!
