for those that do-when do you go back to 24/7 turnout??

simply out of interest I guess, bit of background-I have my own 16 acre yard with my horse plus 6 DIY liveries. Last two years horses have been out 24/7 all year round. However this wet wet winter has meant that from Jan (yup held out that long) all of them in at night ..Im planning to go back to 24/7 out when summer fields been weed sprayed and rolled around Easter week but just wondered how many yards have set date for night turnout if you like?? when I was livery at old yard it was in at night 1 Sept till the 1st May...my liveries are moaning (behind my back mostly) and I keep telling them in at night is quite normal!! ....
 
asap !! but at the moment the fields are still a bit wet and not enough grass growth.
hopefully in the next 4 weeks though!
 
ahh see thats the issue-the grass growth..I keep trying to tell my liveries that there is not enough re-growth yet but arghhhh...Im hoping in the next few weeks to be able to have a mucking out break but as the buggers wont eat hay in the field im worried they will get into mischief left overnight with little grass!!...could someone please come and lecture my lot on the fact that just cos the suns shining its not SUMMER yet!!!
 
I think the 1st May is quite common, it has been that date for several yards I've been on.
Last year I think ours went out the 2nd week in May because the ground was so wet.
Yours have done well staying out till jan - mine had to come in from Oct to save the ground. Your liveries have got it good!
 
We have, though will bring them back in if we get any rain.
Cause we have plenty of grazing, we have waited till they aren't bothered about coming in and the ground has dried out a bit. We've lots of grass comiung through.
 
Most yards I've been on were in on a night 1 October, out full time 1 May.

But the last couple have been "whenever you like" so they don't come in until 1 Nov and are usually out full time by the end of March!!! As long as its not wet and cold... as they are clipped, and if its wet we can't use summer fields and winter one is bare!
 
well thanks everyone-was feeling really awful-one liveries dad (who puts out whilst she stays in bed) had a moan this morning at 6 about going back out and left me feeling really bad all day-its only a small yard and I try to make sure the horses are out as much as can but seems you cant please everyone all the time..I think my trouble is a few of them have only ever had a horse with me so not used to "normal" livery routine..have been spoilt but they dont appreciate it do they!!...did I mention that I spend £2000 rubber surfacing the floodlit school last winter so could be used all year round and that I make all out winter hay and only charge them £1.50 a bale!! arghhh
 
I would have mine out 24/7 now only I like to use up all the hay first...I hate having last years hay lying around. So I guess he will be out from May judging by the hay I have left.
 
Wow, where abouts in South East are you? Got any spaces?!
Seriously though, some of ours have been out all winter, those that haven't, well we are kind of leting them choose now, if the weather is ok, like today, they tend to want to stay out, if yucky, they come in. Had to fence off 1/4 of summer paddock though and put them in there as the mud in winter field was worse than I have ever seen it before!!

Mine always has to be in at night, no option!!
They only get about 4 hours out over the winter and can stay out til 5pm in the summer if we're lucky!! I hate it but the facilities are so good i just cant bear to move!
 
I'm hoping to get them out asap as long as the weather doesn't change again for the worse. We have too MUCH grass growing already! It's usually the start of April, and they don't come in until december. The fields are still looking really good - advantage of only having 2 or 3 horses in a 15 acre field!
 
I want to come to your yard

Mine had to stay in for about 3-4 weeks this winter, it was hell.

Ours usually go out 24/7 April or May depending on the grass growth
