We were talking at yard tonight.Girl said was speaking to trailer insurance and was reminded to take horses passports even on local journeys as if you break down and need recovery to pick up your horses the horse transporter will be unable to take your horse if no passport.
Must admit previously had a lorry and just had a folder with all that in it that I just took now going on to a trailer so better remember them. Will say would for long journey but probably not get so worried if local but better start.

That is the only reason I got passports for my horses. I refused to get them for years; on principle and because I don't trust DEFRA, also because of the Hunting Act. However, the latter came to nothing and I was concerned that my trailer rescue company would leave me stranded, so I am reluctantly fully legal now!

I never take mine

Although I have a feeling I have my mares passport already in the truck so I know where it is!

Must admit I never take mine anywhere, although I only go to very local shows so could actually hack home if I had a problem with the car or trailer.......

I have a big plastic box that I keep my "travelling essentials" in and add my hat/gloves etc to when I go out. When not travelling, this box lives in the tack room. So my solution has been to just leave my passport in this box. Then it's always with my horse- either in the tack room at the yard or in my car when out with the trailer.

Thats what this girl said she never took them as only local but tbh not all hackable.
Tho do know folk that could come and get me and/or horses but if on a dual carriageway and police get involved(as they did when I had a blow out with lorry) might land up needing them as police will only wait so long for your own recovery until they organise their own(at great cost to you and read small print of breakdown cover as often will not cover if police involved and insist you move lol no not bitter

MMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm well i didn't get asked for my ggs passport when i broke down!!! Blokes were brilliant but i do believe they wouldn't know what they should be looking at in passport, a horse is a horse to them, in the nicest way!!.

I've been stop by ministry and they where just as bad!!! My horse was kicking inside to say ER HELLO why have we stopped? And they didn't hang around to have a proper look!

But i do have it in transport as RC event you have to shown them and they defo know what they're looking for!

Thing is, you may well not be asked, but what if you are?
It really is a pain, but not worth not taking it on every trip, be it 100 yards or 100 miles.
