How often do you see your horse each week if it's on full livery ? I am hoping to tranfer my horse to full livery by January and just wondered as it will be a bit of a change moving from DIY. Are you expected to go up every day ?
 
I don't own a horse, but a girl at my riding school does and she keeps it on full livery. She only goes up there on weekends and it was left all week without an owner/sharer, but now she has someone loaning a few days in the week.

I dont imagine you have to go up everyday, they wouldn't expect you to because you're paying for them to do the stable chores on your behalf, so they may see it as pointless for you to turn up not to ride or muck out etc.
But then again, of course you want to see your horse as much as possible. So it doesn't matter really, either everyday or once a week.

I keep my horse on full Livery and unless work/holiday commitments means I can't I go up I go to my horse 6 days a week. We both get a monday off as a rest day, she is usually exercised 6 days a week too, but if i'm not riding on one of these 6 days I do generally pop in and see her. I'm at a very good yard don't generally need to pop in and check I just like to.
 
Mine are on full livery and I don't need to go up at all if I don't want to. I always ride at weekends and occassionally mid-week. Having said this I think you need to have full confidence in whoever is looking after your horses to allow this degree of control to someone else. I do have this confidence but my horses have only ever been looked after by one person for over 15 years and I am not sure what would happen if she should ever stop doing livery.
 
My boy is on full livery and I go up 7 days a week unless I have a prior commitment in the diary. However, this is completely my choice and I could go up as little or as often as I like. I do like to see my boy everyday though, and the reason I went on fully livery is so that I had more time to exercise him. Works very well for me.
 
Mines at full livery (minus the riding). I am not expected to go up at all but I go every day. I suppose it's my choice if I want my horse fit and well exercised or left unfit and fat.
 
It is completely your choice on how often you want to go up there. I am working part time at a livery yard and there is a pony on full livery who I exercise, his owner hasn't been up to see him in nearly 3 months!

However she has seen me ride him and knows that he is getting the best care, normally she only comes up every other weekend.

Also depends on whether your full livery includes exercising or not.
 
My horse in on full livery and I visit him 7 days a week, just because I want to.
Out of the other liveries on our yard some visit daily, some 5 days a week, some 3 days a week and some once in a blue moon. It is a matter of choice.
I know if I miss a day for any reason my horse will be looked after, so I have peace of mind, but I enjoy spending time with him so see him as often as I can.

I was on DIY for a year when I first got my mare. It was very hard going. Very hard. The hours I do at work just didn't suit DIY. I was up twice per day 7 days per week. Needless to say I moved to full livery.

For the first couple of weeks it was a bit weird to see her stable already done, turned out and fed. I lost a bit of control with it and that was the main issue for me. I gradually stopped going every day though and even had a sleep in on Sundays!

Now, after 3 yrs of being on Full livery, I get up to see her 2/3 times p/w in the eveings, all day Saturdays and Sunday mornings.
 
I tend to go up Everyday apart from Tuesday and Thursday but its lovely to just be able to decide last minute that you arn't going to go and it will make no difference to the horse
 
I go tup three times a week and pay YO to excersise my lad three times a week.
Works out well but you have to make sure you're confident in the yard and who ever is handling your horse.
 
Can I ask how much you are all paying for full livery and where you are located.

I am considering doing full livery 6 months of the year and DIY 6 months...my yard is flexible like that. I am sure you can guess I want full livery during the winter!

My yard has quoted £485/cm for 5 days full livery or £525/cm for 7 days full livery. My horse is currently costing £400/m on DIY with assitance on top. But I am finding I am spending all my time doing mucking out and haynets and no time left to work with him, (he is a youngster). I can afford the £485 but I am worried about relinquishing control!

WHat do you all think?
 
Depends on the horse and the yard. Timewise it makes sense, don't see the point of spending time on chores and not riding. The cost isn't that much different. But you need to be confident your yard is good enough to put your youngster on full livery. I'm sure you can tell from the other full liveries there. If you intend to go up nearly every day you can make sure everything is being dome correctly. I'm at a great yard now, but still the difficult or young horses don't fare as well as my laid back, human loving boy.
 
Forgot to add I pay £445 per month in the home counties very close to London, includes, feed, hay, turnout, mucking out, bedding, holding for vet, farrier etc, use of outdoor school. Great grazing on immaculate fields poo picked everyday. That's the one job I hated especially in winter, lugging heavy, heavy wheelbarrows of poo across muddy fields!

I get all that for £300 in Kent :)
 
Hi,

I pay £250 ish a month full livery inc bedding,hay/haylage, feed, worming etc the only thing I have to do is ride and groom and pay for the farrier/vet. I would prefer doing DIY but with work and finding a good yard within a decent distance, easier to stay where I am and where the horse is happy :) I've been there years and years so makes sense to stay put. I've recently sold my horse and looking for a new one which is in great timing as they are currently building a new arena in time for the winter! But all my stuff is still kept at the yard at no cost and they are holding my stable back until i find a new one.

When I do have one I usually go up 6 times a week to ride, and if I'm/horse ill or injured I still go up there to see them. Owners are good though when my old horse was injured on mostly box rest when I was away they would walk her out for me. I'm very lucky when I think about it! Especially when you hear about all the yard politics you can get at some stables.

I know. I see these cheap prices too, and I wonder if it may be worth moving house .. about 200 miles north?
If it makes you feel better, no where in the Chiltern / Thames Valley is cheap. Average prices for full livery are £110 to £160plus per week. I have checked the prices of many, many yards in this area, and for the lesser price, that doesn't even guarantee decent facilities!
 
There are two full liveries on the yard where we keep our lot - they pay £170/wk and their horses are looked after brilliantly - but not ridden. One owner is incredibly busy with their work commitments and comes every spare moment to ride. The other comes maybe once a week to pat their horse and give him an apple - she said the other day how nice it was to have all these facilities and how she should take advantage of them while the horse was here..... and how she couldn't summon up the energy.

Each to their own - as long as you trust the person looking after your horse, you really have your own choice as to how much you go up!
 
I see my horse 2-3 times weekdays and both days at the weekend unless I am away. At my last yard I went up every night or got a friend to check because I didn't trust them to give him enough hay or check for injuries. I have to keep him 20 miles away to get the level of care that I want so I can't just pop up as its a 40 mile round trip. I would love to find something closer but its proving very difficult.

I pay £485 pcm for 7 day part-livery. Full Livery is generally that your horse gets groomed every day and tack cleaned and some exercise on top of the basic stuff (Its £650pcm at my current yard). My last yard was £398 gone up to £416 recently but I was buying extra hay on top and the beds were poor so i used to end up doing some mucking out myself.
 
We see the horses 5 times a week. We are lucky to have a very trustworthy YO. I pay £60 a week, but I supply all hard food and supplements and there is no exercising of them, which I would not want anyway.
 
Jazzy's on full livery. I could go up as often as possible but realistically that's only at weekends due to work. There is a floodlit outdoor arena but he hates it in there and it's getting darker in the evenings so hacking after school is getting more and more problematic! I'm one of the less frequent visitors to the yard!
 
Gosh, I think I need to move! Am currently paying about £520 pcm and that is basic, no grooming, tack cleaning, exercise, feed or wormer. Plus I am having to buy haylage in on top as we have been restricted to 14lbs of hay a day. With a 17hh trakehner who is not a good doer, its simply not enough.
Have to have her on livery through necessity at the moment as I am injured and unable to get up there, let alone do anything with her.
Have good grazing, ok menege, round pen and some farm tracks to ride around.
