How much do you feed per day? I know the recommendation is 2-3% of body weight which would be about 4-500g in the spaniel's case. He acts like he is being starved if he gets a meal of 200-250g! Just trying to judge what others are doing.

Yeah I feed the 2% more some days if he gets a big lump of something. Doesn't look much does it??? :D don't be fooled by the starving face! :D

I'm trying to work out how much I'm going to have to up it in season. He's a working gundog and is very hard to keep weight on!

I do it by eye tbh. I have different sizes of springers, out of season my bigger ones get 1lb of mince and any leftovers, and in the morning a chicken thigh or drumstick. In season I would up that to 1.5lb and two or three pieces of chicken in the morning.

It also depends how much you intend to work him. Mine get a fair amount of work even out of season and they work maybe three days a week in season, sometimes more. Just give more meat if you want to put weight on and more bone if they are a bit porky :)

Hes a big old fashioned Springer, not a trialling type that is almost Cocker sized weighs a shade under twenty kilos. He does a fair amount of training and work currently but in season is going to be working at least three days a week (flexi time is a god send)
