For those who fix own rugs

I have only patched up stable rugs so yes...double threaded for extra strength and I do a running stitch and then do it again. Seems to hold!

I use waxed thread off ebay and a sewing awl. So far my repairs have worked which is a miracle!

Plaiting thread, rubbed with beeswax (or a candle is good too) to stop it holding the wet and rotting

The amount of rugs I repair and I never even thought bout using candle wax to waterproof! What a good idea and much cheaper than nikwax!

I use fishing line to repair turnout rugs never rips, out and nylon cotton for stable rugs.

I've heard of using fishing line to fix turnout rugs, apparently the rips will never open again if done properly.

I use upholstery thread - thiner than plaiting so easier to sew with. However won't break

I bought a set off eBay so I can match most rug colours too!

Fishing line wire, is a good one too, that stuff is really strong too isnt it!

Beeswax might be good - that's what's used on the thread for stitching saddlery.

This pretty much! I cut out patches from old rugs and then superglue them on! Never had a problem

When you've done your sewing, dab a bit of clear silicone on it, the stuff for bathrooms and kitchens, it's flexible and waterproof, you can get it from the hardware store

Embroidery thread, it has six strands, I normally peel it into three and three. Super strong, I get mine from Hobbycraft.

I am so going to try the superglue and the mastic tricks!
