i bought one of these a couple of months ago

from local garden centre. it's the Wolf Garten Small Sweep, costs about £9, and is waaay better than the rake that comes with the usual poo pickers (which make my wrists really hurt, i think i'll end up with r.s.i.)
this does a much better job, is really strong (no damage at all to tines after loads of use) and much easier to use imho.

if only they did one for taller people though this would hurt my back too much but they are great!

my friend`s tool for the stablemate broke and she now has a sawn off garden rake

yep been using one for ages but it does kill your back, i also use a shavings fork (long handled)and barrow when my backs bad. Kerilli any news on getting mare in foal?

isn't killing my back so far...!
Katy's not in foal, guttingly, it's cost a fortune and i am so disappointed i could sit and cry, so i just don't let myself think about it at all.

Doesn't it leave a lot of the poo behind though? And wouldn't be any good for stuff that the birds have spread around. Or am I the only one who picks up every single bit . . . . .

no, it gets nearly all of it (my chickens like spreading it around), and i'm very fussy! i just keep raking with it until i've got it all.

get a metal shavings fork with a wooden handle most agricultural suppliers have them, not the coloured plastic types that tack shops sell (they break easilly)

I use an adjustable rake from Homebase but lots of places sell them on line

have done for years. You can set the tines quite tight for the little bits! And it is full length so no bad back (apart from wheeling the damn barrow!!)They do get loose after a while but my hubby fastens them to a good position so they don't move about too much.
