For those with cob cross ponies

Well mine is a proper cob really, though conformationally and athletic ability wise has probs got something else in him.

I clip off his feathers, and pull his mane. I have thought about hogging, but think they can look bullish, and don't want to risk it.

too much hair if he was natural! and he has white legs, they'd be hell if I let his feathers grow properly.

My mare lives out all year so I do keep her as natural as possible. She is a cob x native.

She does get a little spring spruce up though!!. Which usually involves trimming her jawline and ears, tidying up the cat hairs around her knees, banging her tail (without compromising her fly swat-abilities!) and using a blade, just levelling up the ends of her longish mane.

Next autumn though, i might just trim her heals off to stop the mud clumping up there.

I pull my chaps mane, but keep his feathers on. Mainly because I do a lot of showing, and need nice neat plaits, but like nice feathers!

mines cross Tb and they only thing she has that is cobby is the mane tail and feathers, but i dont like feathers on skinny horses so they go and she wont let me do her mane so shes a bit of a scurry one :o

Fany is a draft, but I think of her as a cob. She goes natural. With the amount of bone she has she would look really weird with out her feather. Also her feather is very wiry rather than silky and would look odd as it grew back.
