How much stone did you puy in (in tonnes) and how much sand?

Thanks. I have headache from trying to work it all out

Did yuo put a membrane in between the soil and stone and between the stone and surface?

You may find that you may be able to buy your stone & sand by cubic metre. If so, decide how deep you want each, the sand & the stone, to be & you'll be able to work out the volume.

The membrane goes between the stone & the sand.

We have a base membrane - thin one, then base layer, then membrane that is more carpet like then surface - can't remember quantities though of stone / surface as I'm useless with numbers!

We have just completed ours, and we had 180 tonnes of 50mm stone, and probably about the same in clean hardcore as we had to dig quite a way down.

I can't for the life of me remember how much surface but I know it was 8" worth. We put a membrane only between the stone and the surface, so far it is riding very very well, and draining brilliantly with all the heavy rain we have had.

You need to dig down to the subsoil then put big stone then smaller stone, then hire a compacter machine and roll it well. Then use the membrane.
Several tips; don't allow the membrane to sit in the sun, it damages it.
Make sure you overlap by a long way on any joins and glue or stitch them where they overlap, and put the membrane under the sleepers at all the edges.
When the lorry delivers the surface, start tipping from the gate not the other way round, as driving the lorry over the stone with just membrane severely damages the membrane.
Don't forget a decent slope on your arena, otherwise it won't drain well and you will hardly notice it riding.
pm me any questions!
