I really want a showname for Ethel but I cant think of anything :p Her sire is Tobougg and her dam is Kallistas Pride. I'd really like something with Kallista in just because I think its different but if it cant be done I'm sure I'll get over it ;) She didn't have a race name as she never raced and the company went bust before they could name her (the companys nickname for her was Joy as her mum's nickname was Pride so it was Pride and Joy :p )

So anyway ... please can you post any suggestions you clever lot may have :)

The first thing that sprang to my mind was Kallista Flockhart..... not sure if you'd really want to name a horse after her though!

How about altering Kallista slightly to Callisto? (She was a nymph who was a consort of Zeus in Greek mythology, and its also now the name of one of Jupiter's Galilean moons)
 
Kate- I have thought of that, but I always hated the name Joy for her, really doesnt suit her lol :p

Inky and Sunny - Okay I know the breeder and have emailed them about pictures of her as a baby so maybe if they email back I could ask them :)

MaibuStacey - I dont know who/what Kallista Flockhart is :p but I do like Callisto :) so maybe something with Callisto in it if anyone can think of anything??
 
Hmm. Just thinking out loud here, so forgive me ..... I believe Periwinkle (blue flowered plant) is known also as 'Joy o' the Ground' so perhaps Kallista Periwinkle?

'On with the Dance' is lovely, if a bit tenuous!

Hmm as much as I hate "Joy" its bringing up some nice names lol .. I do like Kallista Periwinkle and On With The Dance ...or maybe Kallistas/Callistos Dance ?
 
I like Callisto's Dance.

Or sticking with a vaguely astronomical theme how about one of Callisto Fire/Ice/Moon/Dawn/Dusk/Night/Rising?
 
I was thinking of something to do with the astronomical side of Callisto .... Callisto's Star?? I actually prefer Callisto to Kallista :)
 
Callisto's Stars maybe? Only a small change, but then that also really nicely ties back into the Greek myth, at the end of which Zeus places Callisto (who has now been turned into a bear, as people often are ;) ) into the heavens where she becomes the constellation Ursa Major (the Great Bear, of which the more familiar Plough forms a part).

Or typing that just made me think Callisto's Heavens?
 
Oh yes who hasnt been turned into a bear :p I do like Callistos Stars .. Realised lots of people just have Star in their show names, just adding the "s" seems to make it different :) May have to google Callisto and see if I can think of anything else .. If not Callisto's Stars seems like a good one :D
 
how about kallista's magic?

i say magic because ethel makes me think of the children's book the worst witch, but i dont think tww is the best name!
 
Now you mention The Worst Witch I remember it :) Maybe Callisto's Magic .... Callisto's Magic Stars ?? Although that makes me think of the chocolates lol

Also thought I might mention how Ethel got her name ... When she was a yearling she was out with a herd of fillies but would only stay with another filly they named Dot because she has a star. Ethel used to boss Dot around as if she was her mother, therefore being named Ethel after Eastenders Dot's mum :) Although after a while Dot became Dotty and all reason for their names was lost lol :p Dont know if this would help for show names .. but thought I'd mention it :D

ETS - Okay, just thought I'd look up the whole Eastenders thing as that was only what I'd and have just discovered I have been fed lies and Ethel was in fact Dots friend .. not her mum ... so I guess it was because they were friends in the field :p

If you have a name followed by 's I think it sounds best if you follow this by 2 names - I quite like Calisto's Magic Dancer. If you drop the 's then 2 sounds better - Magic Dancer...

How about Calisto's Magic Dancer? Gives you a nice range of nicknames ;)
 
Hmm Callisto's Magic Dancer does have a nice ring to it :) Although I do still like Callisto's Stars or even Callisto's Magic Stars ... Hmm first I couldn't think of any names and now I have one too many :p

Calisto's Magic Stars has a really nice ring to it :)

Edit - and it's chocolate so it has to be a winner!

Clearly the solution is to track down Ethel's old pal Dot and call one of them Callisto's Stars and the other one Callisto's Magic Dancer...... :p
 
'Kalliste' means 'the most beautiful' in Ancient Greek, so names starting with Kall/Call eg. Callisto, Calliope are to do with beauty (Calliope='beautiful face')

Malibu - ahh I know exactly where Dot is ... I ride her everynow and then at work ;) but ... Dotty is unnamed as a racehorse so maybe I should mention Callisto's Magic Dancer ;)

kitkat - ah twas fate as Ethel is beautiful ;) obviously I'm very biased so other people may not think so :p
