Forage analysis question

We as a yard have just had our grass analysed which came back with some interesting results very high in chloride, really low sodium and selenium am I best to just put her on a broad spectrum bit and min supplement or should I Taylor it to the grass she is on?

I would taylor it definatly having gone to trouble of the analysis.
Not sure how much or actually tells you though unless you are near the coast most land is short of sodium which is just salt and almost all of the uk is lower than is ideal in selenium .

Not wishing to sound rude but what was the point in analysing the grass if you aren't going to use the results? If you can find a general supplement that will fit with your grass fair enough but may be easier and possibly cheaper to only supplement those you need.

It seems silly to go to the trouble of having the analysis done and then ignore it by giving a general supplement.

The thing about minerals for horses is that some should be in a certain ratio to each other, e.g. calcium/phospherous and others stop the update of other minerals e.g. iron can prevent uptake of copper and zinc. Some are safe if you feed a bit too much, some are toxic. Selenium is not good if too much is fed and even salt will be harmful in excess.

If you are not experienced I would suggest you get someone to do the balancing for you. The only one I know of online is Forageplus, if a few of you wanted to do it, it is cheaper for additional horses once you have the first done. They will tell you exactly how much you need to feed of certain minerals.

Hopefully some other people will suggest other places that do it too.

Most definately have a diet plan written. no point in the analysis if you're just going to bung them on a broad spec supplement.
