ford Maverick

I've got a long wheel based one, but it's an old one. Same as the Nissan Terrano. The newer Maverick is made by Mazda instead.

1995, M reg, 2.7tdi. Tows like a dream Stimpy. My IW 505 complete with Patches and I barely know I have anything on the back. Drives lovely too. I have towed two horses in it and it coped well. Will be towing two all the way to Tarporley at the end of the month, which is a good hour from me. Doing a pleasure ride at Kelsall Hill.

I'm very happy with mine.

We have nissan terrano which is the same car. Is it a petrol or diesel?
As a rule the diesels tow better. I love my terrano wouldn't change it for the world.

Ah,,,now,,,hang on a mo.

My friend has a Maverick and she is having biiig problems. The car itself is fab!

She needs a "new ABS control unit". She can't get one as "Ford" no longer make the part (Even though we all know it's a Nissan).

She phoned Nissan and they won't "help" her as she owns a "Ford"!!!!!

Now how friggin unhelpful is that?

Yes, she will get the part she needs eventually but what a load of running around just for a fairly basic part!!

Just thought I should let you know about that.

That sounds more of a problem with her dealership than anything else.

We've never had a problem for parts. Ours just had a new clutch and it's had it's brakes done. The garage (not a Ford dealership as I wouldn't entertain going to them for our car as it's not under any warranty) rang Nissan to order the part without explaining it was Maverick at all.

Ah, that is good to know!! I will let her know immediately.

It is quite unreal isn't it? She wants to buy a part,,,hence spend money,,,and yet this dealership seems to be more worried that she owns a Ford than making a few squid?

Thanks for that me dear

Well in fairness, Nissan and Ford fell out over the shared build and it's true to say some Nissan garages are a bit uppity about it. (I used to work for Ford many moons ago)

The rumour at the time was that Ford wanted Nissan to put their own transmission into the Maverick during manufacture which Nissan allegedly took great exception to. Ford only got the deal with the Maverick to see if they had a place in the market for a Ford badged 4x4. When sales proved successful they introduced the Explorer but the Maverick was so popular they couldn't withdraw it from the market.

I love mine. Only Ford I'd ever buy! (Apart from the tractors lol)

the abs unit is probably made by bosch and chances are if you go to a bosch specialist supplier they will be cheaper than ford or nissan anyway. the part no. will be on it somewhere. i had this problem for a flywheel sensor. nissan wanted £115. but the part was a bosch part and i got it from a bosch supplier for £36. same part but not in a nissan box. pm me for any help,i'm in the motor trade so might have some phone no's if you're in the south east.
