Just got back from riding my 27 year old 14.2hh Welshie. We’ve been together 10 years and she‘s my absolute world and taught me so much. I worry about losing her every winter especially when I see other horses on the yard having so many health problems. However, she’s showing no sign of slowing down and leads every ride and even the youngsters struggle to keep up with her as she has the most amazing forward walk. Does anyone else have a Welshie that’s forever young?

yup mine is now 19. He has taught me so much in the 14yrs I have had him (even though have ridden and worked with horses for about 35yrs !) he loves life, and is cheekier now than ever.
This morning he gave a poor cyclist a scare when he decided to chase him down the lane doing his best welsh cob trot with me bouncing about trying to rise to it (which is harder than you think!) whilst laughing. They are the peter pan of the horse world!

My girl is 16 and I have owned her for 14 years. Not as old as your girl but as enthusiastic as she was as a 4 year old. EveryThing is done at 100 miles an hour with a smile on her face. ?
That sounds just like Tess everything is a competition!

My Welsh x TB is 30 and has not slowed down. She power walks and no one can keep up with it! She loves galloping and jumping logs in the woods. She is very keen and feisty and I will be heartbroken when she is no longer with me.

Last year, I thought my 27 year old Shire-TBX would go on forever. She was faster and livelier than all the younger horses. But age caught up with her December, and it just feels like slogging uphill through a snowstorm now. Sometimes it eases off and there is light, and we are hacking in Mugdock park, but then the blizzard comes back and we are fight again and wonder how much longer we can do this.

And this happened fast. I bought a 2-year old in March, but I now wish I had bought one a year ago. But a year ago, my horse seemed like she would go on forever and buying another horse didn't seem like a thing I needed to be seriously thinking about.

Not mine any more, but when my old Welshie was retired to the Horse's Trust, I had to email them to correct their website, which stated his foaling date as 1998. It should read 1988.
He was retired because it's embarassing for the RDA to be working a 30 year old pony, not because he had slowed down or put a foot wrong.
