Forgive me, HHO but I hate ...

I've got 3 to clip tomorrow - this thread is reminding me how much I dislike it! First one will get a full clip but I can see a blanket for the second and a bib for the third being the way it goes.

Yard has a shower so I'm taking a full change of clothes for afterwards and wearing a paper decorators boiler suit or the actual clipping. Urgh.
 
it never fails to surprise me how many people will clip really cheaply, it £8ish to sharpen the clipper blades, £300 ish for new clippers (i actually have 2 sets that will full clip) around £50 to service them, more blades are £30ish, its a dirty horrible job and people will do it for £20 - girls at my yard find it amazing that i won't clip horses for others. I just think there is no point for £20
 
Half clipped my boy last weekend, all 3 sets of blades went blunt so got to do the other side tomorrow (I've bathed him ready this time, silly mistake last week!).... its not been long enough to forget how much I hate it! The hair, the wind blowing the hair, the bored s***tless horse getting fidgety, more hair, the lines not being straight so more gets clipped off, the hair, matching the lines up, the hair ..... oh to be rich and pay someone!

tbh I clip in my normal every day clothes these days, jeans not jods though and really don't have a problem with all the hair-I wont clip for other though despite being asked repeatedly-I don't have insurance for it or enough experience, I enjoy clipping my mare as she is a good girl and I am the only one who has ever clipped her so I take pride in the fact that my opinionated stroppy mare will stand abut as long as it takes me to make he look neat

my ex a farm worker, welder, mechanic and general fixer and maker of most things, used to laugh at the idea of clippers being serviced because once you remove the blade and you can't remove anymore so he used to say the only thing they could do was remove those bits and give the whole lot a good clean and oil. They could possibly test the electrical current etc by plugging them into a current tester or whatever it is called but that is it
 
don't know Nell Rusk, but the first time i sent them off the rang me a said that as the oil had leaked (it was a case that came with the oil in it and i just kept the oil where it was when they were new) i needed a new case and all the electrical lead needed replacing as well as the service and that the thermal cutout switch was knackered -think that one cost me £85 :-(

I do this after every time I clip anyway! Ah okay, we have a safety tester at work so I could test them but I use a power breaker when I clip anyway so there's a low chance we'll get electrocuted. I was wondering if there was any internal filters that needed replacing but clearly not!
 
Nell rusk, my clippers completely come apart, the casing comes off, its amazing how much hair gets in there, i strip mine and blow all the hair out after every use.

I do that every time too, but yes in my experience with clippers (not extensive but have been clipping my own for over 20yrs) the unit itself has not come apart-if it did it would open that and clean in there to. might be worth googling ...servicing the type of clippers you have and see if anything interesting comes up?
