I was 15 mins into my ride in the forest today when I realised I didn't have my riding hat on!!! I've never forgotten it before, and it was out on the side ready, I just completely forgot to put it on. Had everything else!

It really spoilt the rest of my ride. Decided it wasn't worth going back for it, but felt terribly vulnerable without it and worried about falling off and hitting my head and lying dead, etc. and no-one knowing where I was

I got more and more nervous and I'm sure she picked up on this as seemed to spook more than usual and so I worried even more, and round and round it went in my head!!! Don't normally notice the spooks so was def on red alert without it!

Trotted the majority of the ride in order to get back quicker and cringed everytime I passed someone, expecting them to have a go at me for not wearing one, even though my friend rarely wears hers. Very relieved to get back in one piece!

Just amazed the difference it made to my confidence. Hey ho, you live and learn!

I did this last week, I was horrified as I'd never forgotten my hat before, and chunter terribly if I ever see anyone riding without one. I didn't feel at all vulnerable, but I was shocked that I could get halfway through my ride before I noticed!

I've done it a few times in the winter when I've had a wooly hat on. I've been a fair way into my hack before I've realised that I haven't actually got my skull cap on but a beanie instead!!

Oh dear! I did that once too when I had my old horse, luckily I wasn't too far from home when I realised so I just went back and got it!

To this day I don't know if the reason my hat came off in the terrible accident I had on Sunny was due to my forgetting to do the chinstrap up. I threw it out anyway, just to be on the safe side. Terrible accidents can occur on the safest of horses in a split second. No hat, I'd have got off.

I would have got off and walked back I think

Arguably just as vulnerable, as my face shows

I remember in the past *nearly* forgetting my hat, but as I now keep my hat, boots, gloves, high viz tabard, phone holder all in the same bag, I put them on at the same time, thus preventing me from forgetting. Lord knows my memory is awful since my accident, so I need all the prompts I can get!

Hello, I have been registered awhile but haven't posted.

I have forgotton my hat on a few occasions, although I have always got off. I have a horse which is a confidence giver, in August I found myself in hospital. Apparently I had phoned the y/o to say I had come off. He put my horse in her stable, collected me. I then saw to my horse, drove home. Upon walking in the house I said I think I need to go to hospital. I don't even remember tacking my horse up. I did have my hat on and was told by the docter that my hat probably saved me. Its scary to know that I have lost 7 hours of that day and probably won't remember it now. It wasn't until someone else got on her that I realised she had a problem.

I forgot my had once. Didn't realise till I caught sight of my reflection in a window as I passed. I was at the half way point of my ride so carried on but spoilt my ride, I was tempted to get off and walk home but didn't.

I've done exactly the same thing when schooling during winter. Thought it was a little chilly round my ears and then discovered no hat! luckily a very safe horse but I'd almost finished schooling before I realised! I blamed it on a senior blonde moment

I did the same thing a couple of months back. As soon as I realised I turned round but it was no good, I had to get off & lead. This was on my safe little cob who never puts a foot wrong! It makes me cringe when I see people without hats, especially on the roads.

I've done the same. Luckily it's been when hacking out when with some-one else (why didn't the notice either!) and we'd not gone far so they've held the horses and I've run back for the hat.

I've only done it where I have got on at the mounting blocked checked my girth and then thought ..... something doesn't feel right ! Poss the wind in my hair lol jumped strait off and got it!
