I have spoken to my Farrier and he has recommended a hoof supplement, I have read up & Formula 4 Feet seems to come highly recommended... Is this a complete supplement? I assume there is no need for additional vits and mins....

Also, I have read that F4F has a high protein content, has anyone had any experience of it making your horse fizzy? My boy is a good doer & just has a handful of cool mix, vit & min supplement & garlic twice a day, with lots of haylage/grass if poss!!.....

Any other suggestions would be great......

In my experiance F for F is rubbish and made no difference Hoof maker how ever completely changed my horses feet and he now goes 6 wks without losing a shoe.

Hope this helps

When Frankie was on a commercial hoof supplement formula 4 feet worked best out of the ones I tried (farriers formula, a global herbs one and a couple of others). It seems different ones work better for different horses.

What I would say it look at Surrey Equestrian or Prequestrian on Ebay for prices, the big sacks are about £58, much cheaper than buying it from them direct.

F4F has worked really well for my cob - she was put on it post laminitis - there is no need for any other vits and mins and it has never made her fizzy and she is also a a good doer. She has good hard feet and is unshod.:)

Bear in mind that for any of the hoof supplements to show if they are working it will be a couple of months to show - and then the only in the new growth at the top of the hoof as it takes 9 - 12 months for the hoof to replace itself entirely.:)

As some one else has mentioned get the large sack as it is the best value for money - my feed merchants order it for me and it costs the same as if I ordered from ebay etc inc the P&P - so worth checking their price as well.:)

I use Formula4feet for both my boys... h/w cob with dreaded white feet, and dartmoor pony (previously had toxic laminitis), and it has definately made a positive difference to cob's feet - he keeps shoes on for 6wks (used to be off every two weeks), and dartmoors feet have grown out well considering all his ailments... its not cheap, but you only need very small amounts, no other supplement is needed, and I've had no problems behaviour wise either (both are normally very buzzy). I'm sure as with all these things some will suit some horses better then others, but i have no complaints!
