Just a quick one, the new horse I'm buying needs his feet trimming and sorting out. I've been told to get formula for feet, obviously I've heard of this but never had to use it. How good is it and what are the results like at the end? Thanks.

It's excellent. I have a horse that could never hold shoes, I put her on F4F and the problem was solved. Not straight away though. It will be six months or so before you really see the benefit as the hoof has to grow down from the top.

I buy mine from Prequestrian in a 20kg sack which is the most economical way. They sell it on ebay for £71.75 + £6 P&P or you can phone them direct on 01580 851122 (I don't work for them!).

I've never tried formula for feet as never needed to but worth thinking about what you are feeding overall. If you get the basic diet right you might find you don't need extra supplements.

Brilliant, the more you buy the cheaper it is, so if you can afford it I'd get the bag think it was about £80 when I used to get it

He's only 3 & when I had him vetted the vet said his frogs need to grow out, they should take about 6 months. He suggested it but I've never had to use it before, thanks for the advice I have brought a 7kg bag for £30 it was on promotion :D

My mare is on formula4feet its brilliant. She has laminitis and really damaged feet pictures on here http://equinecare-and-control.weebly.com/l.html and its making allot of difference , also rubbing cornucresine on coronet every night for 2 weeks will make a huge difference massage it for 10 mins per ft if you can.

Sometimes it doesn't matter what you feed if your horse has bad feet it needs help from special supplements

I wasn't saying I wouldn't feed extra supplements but I would look at the feed first. A horse will have bad feet for a reason and diet can be a big contributing factor.

Trying cutting out all feed with mollasses or moglo in and aim for a feed with sugar and starch levels below 10%.

Pointless going to the expense of something like FF if their main feed is causing their feet to crumble.

I used to feed this to my tb mare with great results. After a couple of years I moved her a couple of counties further south and it no longer had any effect whatsoever! A forage test showed high iron plus very low copper and zinc. I now only supplement what is needed at a fraction of the cost of f4f and with far better results :)

I agree with wellsat. Sort the diet from the bottom up and it will save you piling supplement upon supplement. The best thing for feet, however, is a mineral analysis of your forage and corresponding feeding plan. Forage Plus are popular http://shop.forageplus.com/.
