hey, i made a post yesterday that had at one point 150 views and only 1 reply from Inks! at least her and fiona were decent enough to comment, tbh how much effort does it take to say "well done" or nice photos?!?

I tend to search tinternet as well, although i often end up scaring myself that way

I agree with Shilasdair. Sometimes I see a post with no replies and go to see if it is something that I can help with, but often find that the post title bears no relation to the question asked and it is something I have no experience of or that the question is so badly written that I cannot work out what they are saying! (This is usually exacerbated by the use of text speak and total lack of punctuation).

Not saying this is the case with the OP though, just responding to the general topic of not getting replies.

I also agree with the people who say that timing of posts plays a part. There are certain times of day when people only have time to read, but not reply. For example, first thing in the morning before going off to work or the school run, or at the end of the working day, when people are having a quick browse of the forum to catch up, but need to catch their train or bus home. Mondays are often a bad day to post too, as everyone is posting their competition news and posts often get pushed down the page very quickly.

heartily agree with this, been on this forum for around 4 years (?) could be longer...

It has always been a bit like this but in the last 9 months or so it has got to the point where I hardly ever bother posting or replying to posts as I never seem to get any replies. (unless someone doesn't agree with me in which case I get a load of vitriol). I've tried posting for 'advice' and also to generate 'discussions' but it is like pulling teeth.

I've noticed there now seems to be a division between the New Lounge and the Soapbox with people that used to post regularly in both now sticking largely to one or t'other.

The other day I posted a how much and got 1 reply. Other members post similar posts and get 15 or so. Go figure... it seems either you've got the HHO 'style' or not.

As someone further on has said these days when I see a 'How much' i don't even look. Sorry but they are all the same after a while. I think alot don't always get answers because people aren't really sure what is being asked or don't know the answer and rather than look a fool saying the wrong thing (especially if it is for advice on a horses health or similar then they will not post. Make the post title more interesting and the content sorry

Thank you for your post which I do agree with however, I think you are missing the point that I was making in my original post.

The point I was making was not that "BOO HOO i only got one reply" but more that I've seen How Much posts with 15 or so replies if the posters is a name that is recognised on here. So although I take your point that people don't necessarily like reading them when you go and look at the reality of what happens on HHO you will see that some users gets replies and some dont which is what annoys me.


As I said in my post, I've contributed to lots of post, tried to generate discussion and even had a go at being mildly contentious at times but I don't find I get the same response as some other posters. Not that I'm particularly bothered by it or otherwise I wouldn't bother coming back on here but when someone raises the fact that they have had a similiar experience, I wanted to support them.

I think someone else a while ago said that with posts asking for Vibes it's like the way people can't resist looking when passing a car crash, other posts just doesn't get the same attention. Personally I don't think that is the only reason and by the way, I love updates

I can only answer for myself, sometimes I don't open Vibes-posts because I don't know what to say, but sometimes I don't realise I don't know what to say until I've read the reply and then I leave hoping that others will reply.
A while ago I cut down on the time I spend on the internet, so obviously I have less time to read and answer posts. I can honestly say that I first view the names of the posts, but with lesser time I rarely have time to look beyond the first page, if it's Soapbox or New Lounge2 and I have nothing else to do, then maybe the second page also.
If I don't see anything that directly catches my interest, then I look through the user names too, just in case maybe f.ex. Acolyte/Splotchy have posted something about her Greyhounds, but named her post in such a way that I didn't realise it was about them.

Honestly I don't care about clout, just yesterday I posted a lengthy reply in the dog forum to somebody that as I recall had only done about 30 posts. Admittedly if I like somebody, like Acolyte/Splotchy, I do try to not miss if she posts in Dog forum, but only because I read, it still doesn't mean I always find the right words to write an answer. And some of my posts gets many views and enough replies to satisfy me (but I'm happy if I get one and see everything else like bonus), other posts I make get few views and maybe one or no replies and then I just presume that A: my post did not seem interesting enough, B: other active posts was more interesting and/or C: people had other things to do.

, but such is life. Also, people can and do take a long time replying on a thread, or sending PMs, and don't get any response or follow up, so occassionally it doesn't seem worth the effort.

I've noticed this phenomenon too, but assumed it was simply a feature of normal social interaction: people will tend to gravitate to people they already know, and it takes a while to establish a recognisable face, as it were. I'm not overly worried about it, although of course it would be nice to have more responses to comp reports sometimes. However, I know that I'm still a newbie around here, and that my pony isn't really doing anything terribly exciting compared to all the eventing and high-level dressage and jumping that many of the posters are up to! I find it exciting because he's the first horse I've brought on by myself, and he's not exactly uncomplicated, but I suppose to many of them it must read like a first-time parent: "Guess what? My baby made a solid poo!"---err...yeah...they do that...so what?

I have noticed that some are more popular than others, some take things too seriously with toungue in cheek posts, some like to crow, some are attention seekers and some are very witty. I am new here and don't know anyone. I will comment on subjects I feel strongly about, have experience in, etc, but I tend not to comment if someone has already said what I would have said. Sometimes I don't have time to reply and quite often, I spend 10mins or so typing a reply only to find my PC has disconnected from the net and when I click on continue it all gets lost so sometimes I give up.
