Is there such a thing on this forum? In that some members tend to always get numerous responses?
Or is it purely due to subject matter?
Or does it depend on which part of the forum you post on, be it CR or NL?

If there is such a thing as 'forum clout' what would the profile look like?

There is most definitely such a thing IMHO - I used to have it, but now I change my user name so often (and dont post as much) so no-one can keep track of who I am :D

TBH it wasnt as much forum clout as that I posted a lot and everyone got used to me being around? But then I recognise your user name too :)

PS - used to be Acolyte/Splotchy/Gazehound/CareyR etc etc etc....

It will always be the case and there's no reason why it shouldn't. Some people imput so much and get to 'know' people so people feel compelled to respond to them....then others may not be known so well (I'd class myself as fairly unknown)

It's hard work to find a place up in the top rankings on a forum, particularly a big one like this but it should never upset people that they don't get so many reponses.

I think CR is a pretty democratic place and if you write an interesting post or are looking for advice then you will get a response. Sometimes through sheer numbers its impossible to reply to all and some I have nothing to say.

The long term posters do get responses but its because they have been around for a while and eventing wise I have met a fair few people through HHO so we all kind of know each other.

For me I tend to respond if a post interests me, there has been something really good achieved or overcome or its a mate!

Oh completely agree, no reason why not, and it's not something to get upset about at all...just curious, as there are often interesting threads with limited response.

I'm sure there is such a thing, but that's just human nature, innit? ;) It does shock me when people analyse how many views/responses they've had, or get shirty if they don't get many replies - that's hardly going to make people want to respond is it?

I find I haven't got enough time to go through everything, so only post on things according to what mood I'm in - either because they wind me up, or are funny, or touching. Some days I just can't be bothered to post at all and I'll even ignore some of my Facebook friends' posts on here if I've already commented on FB. See how fickle I am. ;) :D

Exactly! I was going to post but thought I would leave a while an think about it first and have come back and you've pretty much said it all.
I would just re-iterate that it's not particularly healthy to analyse how many posts one has afterall if it's advise you're after and you get something usefulninna response does it matter if there is 1 or a 100 replies?

erm, i sometimes respect certain forum posters' views more than others when it comes to replies to my posts, questions, etc, put it that way. but, if a topic interests me, or i think i might have something useful to say about it, i'll post no matter who wrote it. it's natural that people who spend lots of time on here, and post a lot, get 'known'.
i think it's a real shame that people are leaving, because of a few nasty posters, there's definitely anti-clout going on here too, and certain people who i just roll my eyes at!

Nickirhia99 - What's a usefulninna response? I've never had one of them, does that mean I have no clout?? :( :p

It wouldn't let me edit that either, on my iPhone there isn't (or I can't find) a scroll facility in the edit box. Couple that with red wine and in the bath and that's how you get 'usefulninna' but that could be the new 'clout' word ;) :D

I see Mallypinkpad has made your siggy :D

Editing on the iPhone is really annoying! I write a lot of my posts on my iPhone hence why there are usually some very odd spellings/random words that crop up in my posts. I can't be bothered to change them :D

Yup, she has officially made it! :D

I tend to respond if...

it's interesting/funny/has pictures/videos
is something I have experience of and can share info on
is someone I 'know' and follow their horses/competing progress

or in rare cases if it's none of the above and is a post that has turned nasty if I feel strongly enough I might post my opinion, but mainly in those cases I tend to just let it blow over...

but then sometimes when I'm being lazy (eg can't be bothered to type/have forgotten password) I might just lurk.....I don't think people should get too hung up about no of replies etc it's not a popularity contest is it?... it's just a sounding board/meeting place for like-minded peeps, and it's online not face to face which makes it so easy to pick up and drop as suits

years ago, when HHO first started i used to post all the time, was on the 1st page for number of posts etc, etc, i then did less competing & just lurked occasionally, & now i'm dipping my toe back in (only CR though.... the rest is very different from years ago) and it tickles me to see themes about clout & so on, things go round & around!!

all very true though, i'd say i used to have a reasonable amount of clout & everyone knew what i did with all my horses etc etc, so knew when i had a really valid comment, now, understandably very few people know anything about me!

OK here is a better formula.....

C + 2(TB) * FBF - K = Replies

Where C is equal to 2(BE - BS) + MM + CP

hahahahahaha :D

i think that the forum is a bit of a reflection of real life surely? so some people ARE more popular than others? what i post on totally depends upon my mood. if i am bored (like tonight) i'll post on lots of things, if i am busy then i tend to read the posts of the people that i 'know'. one of the reasons why i come in CR is because i like to follow people and their horses' progress so thats why i tend to read their posts.

having said all that...i do feel sorry for people who spend ages writing a post and putting pics and videos on and nobody bothers to reply. if i click into a post to read it then i bother to reply. i find it a bit freaky when you have 400 views and no replies

If I have plenty of time then I will read lots of posts regardless of who the posteris, what the title is etc. However, when time is short I will either home in on posts with interesting titles (and inclusion of the words *with pics* is always a good draw) or those by posters whose progress I am keenly following, or those that I know write in a witty, readable and entertaining style. Or sometimes those by posters who are known to start 'controversial' threads!

..... ditto .....

I don't think I've ever asked a question and not had a reply but I mostly ask stupid questions with easy -for you lot - replies. I have occasionally felt a bit grumpy about the 'views to replies' ratio when I've spent ages writing a report but I get over it :D:D

Wow, that's all a lot of thinking. :D

I just post if it's something I'm interested in or I think might conceivably having something interesting to contribute on the subject (although that last bit is really entirely up to anyone reading, I guess). As far as my own threads (admittedly few and far between), if I have a question or want to know something, I ask. Tbf, though I seem to be a pretty effective thread killer, both here and on the only other horsey forum I frequent.

Plus, I have to want to be bothered. Lots of days I don't have the time/inclination so I don't. :)

As far as people replying to mine . . .eh, I figure they will if they have something to say. But surely people post to say what they want to say, not to make other people behave a certain way? It's hard enough to influence people in real life!!

I really don't think you can take stuff on internet forums too seriously. I've met some great people through here, both within the confines of hho and in real life. If I want it, I'll get their opinions but even that doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to follow their advice. ;)

I do think it all has to be taken with a grain of salt. If someone gives you advice you don't want, ignore it. If not "enough" people view/reply . . . I don't know, cut them some slack maybe? Perhaps it's been crap weather and they don't really want to play? Perhaps it's been great weather and they're knackered from being out riding all day? I really wouldn't read too much into it.

I think the forum reflects what happens in real life. Some people are popular, others are not so. People shouldn't get disheartened if their post doesn't get x amount of views or replies.

I post reports fairly regularly and never get a huge number or replies (this doesn't bother me in any way shape or form- I share my experiences and it's there for people to read if they wish). Looking back though I could never find it within me to be witty and smart with my words... I did change the way I wrote though in my previous report (I did the report in the eyes of my horse) and I found it much easier to add humor and with the *little* response I did get it went down better so shall continue writting my reports in that way.

I will read reports of people I know, or follow with interest. Usually if there is a report that hasn't got a huge number or replies I will read that and add my comment, as I understand it takes a fair amount of effort to upload videos, pictures and to ride a 500 word (roughly) report. :)
