forum power and influence

Seeing the Judge back down today made me wonder, does this forum and it's users have real influence, can we change things if we stand together?
I wrote a letter to the Judge, to Gordon Brown, my MP and even the Queen, doing my best to explain in a simple way why the decision was incorrect and suggesting a solution.
I know many many other people off here contacted the judge and PM too, so I wonder, did we have any real influence?
What do you think?
Or was it the charities standing together and the publicity?
Either way the right decision has been made and anyone involved should take comfort from the fact that in our small way, perhaps we were listened to..

I think forums help raise awareness and do a great job at encouraging people to do their bit and take action (e.g. write letters, sent e-mails etc...), where they might not have done.

I think the barrister employed by the charites made the appropriate legal arguement.

I am not convinced that any public representations would make a huge difference, and since they are based on on partial information it is correct,perhaps, that they do not

I think it was a combination of a lot of things put together with the fact that the judge had had it pointed out to him that he was wrong and what with the high court case for cruelity pending.......

Well I was in my local tack shop on Saturday and people were talking about the website created, so for that the internet is great for causing awareness

I think so. I'm quite proud of the hassle I caused for Amy Tryon when I posted the video of Kentucky last year. I think she would have got away with no penalty at all if I hadn't done that.
