Sounds just like our pony!
Well, the only tip I can give you is to do some schooling first; Lots of walk to halt, riding with long reins to start. Gradually picking up reins ( our pony used to jog everytime you shortened the reins).
Lots of circles, surpentines etc in walk. When start trotting, shorten the outside reing slightly more, and half halts every other stride. Its a pain, but does work for us...........after about 6 hours!!lol.

This has worked for us in the school, but out hacking is a different matter altogether. He's like a train! The only thing I can do is let him have his moment, ie trotting up a hill very fast, then he seems to calm down a bit.

He is very good though and will walk across fields when asked on a long reing. But the minute you pick up those reins, he thinks faster!

Would be interested to hear other peoples adivse on this!

hi there

It sounds like she is lovely - but you may have to work on schooling her so she listens to your weight, when you need to slow down the trot grow tall and breathe out lenghthen through your body and half halt and use your voice to ask her to steady, praise her as soon as she responds. This can all be started in walk first then move up to trot. Make sure you are not pulling on both reins as many horses pull against you or bear down on the contact.
Pole work may also help as she would have to slow down over the poles.

Do you have an instructor who can help you with some of these?
She sounds fun and hope it wont be long before she is comming back a bit more to you.

Is she ok on the lunge - you can work on your voice control commands there?

Agree with what others have said, she sounds lovely but by the sounds of it will need some schooling to help with her exuberance!
If you are looking at buying the mare, I would try and take her on for a trial period before you part with the any cash, just to make sure she is the one for you!
And a good instructor will get the pair of you on the right track.
Good luck with your potential purchase.

dont mind to seem horrid, but if she is pulling you now you have to bear in mind that once home she will be more excited, can you cope with her then? will it lose your confidence? i bought the wrong horse first time and it can be a deeply upsetting and money consuming thing to do so be careful!

My horse is very forward and the slightest feel on the reins shes off,Just make sure your legs very still and not on and jst sit deep,do lots of schooling to get her listening to you.I just try and sit really really deep and put all my weight into my seat with my girl,Good luck with her,Hope you have lots of fun!
