In the early hours this morning we lost our beloved Tessa - tragic foaling complications - we & Phillipa our lovely Vet were with her. Phillipa brought into the world a colt foal who we have taken down to her & Lisas - Vet practice - he's up, strong & taking colostrum well. Please send kind thoughts that he will survive. He's bay with four white socks & a lovely blaze. If any one knows of a foster mother - please phone us on: 01591 620211 or 07974 679507.

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't know of a foster mare, but just wanted to let you know that this happened to a good frined of mine a couple of months ago. The found a foster mare at the other end of the country, went to pick her up & luckily she bonded with the foal straight away.

It was hearbreaking at the time, as they lost a wonderful mare, but they now have a georgous little bay filly, who looks just like her mum & are keeping the foster mare forever (she didn't come from a particularly nice place).

I will be thinking of you & hope you manage to find her a suitable mum.

Oh god Perissa, I'm so so sorry. That must have been awful and poor mare to have lost her life and poor baby now an orphan. I use the Girls (Philippa, Lisa and Jenny) and they are wonderful beyond words. My YO was waiting for them to come out to do a scan on her ned's leg (non urgent) yesterday and we knew they were struggling with a difficult foaling. Awful when it's so close to home. I don't know any suitable foster mums but have asked YO if she does and will keep an ear to the ground. If I thought my mare would be any help you could try immediately but she lost her own 4 month foal about 9 months ago so dunno if she would fall in love with a tiny new baby and start producing milk or want totally nothing to do with it! Good luck with your search x

Im so, so sorry to hear this. Philippa was out with me at 6pm lastnight - is this the foal who she is tubing every 2 hours? I know she is sleeping on the sofa at the clinic so that he can have round the clock care (mentioned something about lack of oxygen to the brain?). He is in the best possible hands with Phil and Lisa. Have you contacted all the studs - they may be able to help, or the National Foaling Bank?

My best wishes are with you all.

Hx

Oh god. Didn't someone the other day say they had a mare that lost her foal? Had a look for the post but couldnt find it. Maybe i'm imagining things in trying to think good thoughts

Possibly me, but sadly, on this occasion I am in Canada, otherwise Robin would have been at Philippa's with the colt right now.

All at once there seems to have been nothing but a flood of bad luck news on the forums.

I've passed those numbers on to my friend who lost their foal the other day so fingers crossed it might pan out. (I posted!) end quote.

Sadly not! My friend has rung offering their mare but the foal owner or whoever they spoke too completely lost interest when told the mare was in Scotland! Transport is not such a huge problem these days I would have thought.
