The new pony who arrived a week ago has sporadic foul smelling diarrhoea. I first noticed it when he unloaded from travelling and put it down to him being a bit stressed. Since then his droppings have been normal, small and round and normal smelling. I rode out today leaving him in the stable and he was whinnying for Bo. When I came back he'd obviously been stressed out and had done 4 or 5 foul smelling cow pat poos in the stable, then he did 2 more on the yard and I had to wash out his tail. They smell so bad they make me gag. Should I be worried even though 99% of the time his droppings are normal? I understand watery poos when stressed, but not foul smelling ones...
Help! Thank you :0

I wouldn't worry, mine do nasty foul smelling ones if they are ever stressed. Its particularly nasty inside travel boots and the trailer.

If his poos are normal the rest of the time, perhaps fine a way to prevent stress. Leave him a companion or buy him a stable mirror perhaps.

Thanks guys - that's a relief to hear it's not abnormal. I'm hoping once he realises we always come back, he'll settle when we nip out for a quick hack. I've been keeping them short and sweet just to get him used to the idea. No room for another companion unfortunately but may try a mirror...

Thanks again, will keep an eye on him this week and see if vet is needed but hopefully not.
