That was Chincoteagues Askan. I chose my affix because I loved the Misty of Chincoteague book series, unfortunately nobody could pronounce it.:p He was by an imported dog of American/Canadian breeding, out of a bitch who had classic breeding of that time (1970s), a combination of Int Ch Rossfort Premonition and Int Ch Druidswood Consort. I was so lucky to have her as my foundation bitch but sadly I lost her at 4 years old from lung cancer, broke my heart.:(

Another no longer with me (in fact none of them are :(), Kaja (Chincoteagues kajagoogoo, a commentators nightmare), she was the daughter of Askan in the first picture, grandmother of the 2 going over the jump, and great, great, great grandmother of Saffie.:)

Oh I adored those books as a child :D

What made you choose lad with a sire of US/Canadian breeding at that time? If I may be all boring and such :p:D

My bitch was quite short in the leg and deep in the body , as many were at that time, so I wanted to get some height and length of leg. People had just started importing dogs, mainly from Germany, but a lot were not very good quality. The american dog was by a lovely German dog, but from American bitch lines, his owner had just moved back to the Uk from Canada and brought him and his dad with him. Another plus was they both had very good hips, at a time when not that many people were x raying. We got the height we wanted, rather too much as Askan was a good 26" (and the rest). One judge actually said to us at a show "Its alright I don't measure the good uns".:p He was a real ugly duckling, incredibly uncoordinated as a puppy, and never thought he would make a show dog, but he actually had a very successful career. He was the most gentle dog I have ever known, a real gentle giant.
Sorry, very boring but you did ask.;)
