I went to look at a 'private' yard today for my two neds...wanting to leave current yard because of the bitching and, well, certain difficult people who moan about everyones horses but their own....
So current yard they are on DIY livery, I have a stable each in a barn, i have an 8/9 acre field for my two plus one other (although way too much grass for my mare, she's in a pen on restricted grazing and YO is always commenting on the lack of grass in there and that he hopes it will grow back...), we have an outdoor school with a floodlight, ok hacking and near enough to hack to OEC (2 miles), also xc course next door for hiring. I pay £22 a week each...
Place I looked at today is aprox 6/7 acre field, with 2 wooden stables....stables need repairing before being used (roof blown off!), I think there is running water (i forgot to ask....but there is a trough which I'm assuming is hooked up to a supply). So it would just be me there and they have said to do pretty much what I like with, can split with elec fencing, have a schooling area, put jumps up etc. I said I would want to get the stables sorted asap ready for winter, and that I'd be happy to do the work/buy materials. No electricity though, but has said her dad is an electrician, but don't know how straight forward it would be to hook up to mains electric (their house is the other side of lane from stables)? They want £10 per horse per week.......
Soooooo in a bit of a dilemma really....i would love to have them on their own, this place is 4.5 miles each way, whereas current yard is 9 miles each way...so not only a huge saving on livery but also on petrol....plus its on the way home for OH whereas current yard is 9 miles past our house....so he can always drop in if I am ever stuck at work late.
What would you do???? I am thinking go for it....but at the same time don't want to be stuck in the middle of winter with no lights......also wouldn't be able to ride during the week in winter as no lights.....hmmm decisions decisions.....
