Looking for:
Sporty foal (not too fine- TB due to my long legs and their lack of girth!). For jumping and dressage mainly. To make between 16.3hh - 17.1hh. Temp highly important also, as I want a talented friend for life.

This foal:
Born May 2008 and stands approx 15hh now. Said to make 16.2hh+? ?
Dam - ISH x TB 16.3hh
Sire - Vanner 16hh

The other 2 things I wanted to question are he was gelded whilst still on his mum???- I have never heard of this before?
Also, on his off side belly - just in front of his leg - is he greying out? (dad skewbald - mum white grey)

Many thanks

I think i would be saying more like 17.2hh if its 15 hands as less than a year old..

Cattle are castrated while still on there mum so i wouldnt worry about it.. they can be castrated anytime after there bits have dropped.

Hes a good looking lad!

Not sure about those pasterns to be honest, on the front leg! Also holds head quite high! 'i think the cross was to produce a colored foal! could make a nice sports horse but mught not be much of a real athlete, like pure TB eventers or the TB crosses . Just question stamina etc. depends what level you want to go. The irish cob with us went to novice but had to be seriously fit to do it!!!

I think he's lovely. I don't know much about conformation but nothing jumps out at me, and I think his colouring is lovely, I love coloureds with more white than black

Castrating colts while they are still suckling thei dam is fairl common in the US, and there are some studies which suggest it's much less traumatic for the foal then doing it later in life, so shouldn't a negative factor. Also while save you some expensive

See personally.. I dont go for this 'Too much white rubbish' At the end of the day whats it matter unless your showing it in coloured classes! Jumping and Dressage.. not showing! So at the end of the day, what the bloody hell has colour got to do with it.

aww he looks sweet!! bless, IMO he has a lot of white on him, and having had a coloured in the past it wouldnt be for me. Mainly due to the amount of mass to get clean!! ( i was always at the yard 4 hours before anyone else, due to my coloured always managing to find the greenest poo to wallow in) This chap tho on a good note has colour in the right places imo, like on his butt and head!!

From a conformational point of view he looks good over the back/neck for a baby, i think he will have quite alot of bone once fully developed. Its not easy to tell from the pics but looks a little wide bhind, and over at the knee. The hind cannon looks a little long but could be growing ect ect, so that wouldnt worry me too much at this stage. Someone^^^ has pointed out pastern axis, i dont know it its how he is stood but he looks a little odd there!! General overall pic tho, to me, would seem a nice chap who will need alot of time to grow into his massive frame.

Because if i was paying £3000 for a horse i would want to find it attractive to my eye- if i think a horse with too much white is not attractive to my eye- then of course i do not buy it and hence then the colour clearly had alot to do with it.
I do not like Dark bay horses- i do not find them attractive or appealing personally so obv the colour has a big impact on my decision. Even if its a field companion, if your shelling out money for it and do not like a particular colour/marking then it matters greatly

Colour is not so much in question - EXCEPT the greying out I am questioning?
The main things are height, type, temp & ability etc

MandK - How was the last foal you posted bred ? Did you know his Sire , I would be really interested to know
smile.gif

As for this lad - Personally he has too much white for me , but if you don't mind then its no problem !
He looks sweet, nothing glaringly obviously wrong with him

FIRST/LAST FOAL was by Miley out of a King of Diamonds line mare.

THIS FOAL is by a vanner called Briardale holling King - only 16hh out of a ISH mare.

I like the markings on both- this one is a little different, but white puts me off purely for keeping clean! (my 13.2hh grey is bad enough!!)

My main concern is height, temp and ability - really want 16.3hh + and want a sporty type - so thinking first foal better all round??

The last foal was by Kenzo, I believe, if so I assume it was the SJ stallion owned by Pennie Cornish.

I would be curious to know whether there was anything going on with the last foals limbs, I would certainly have wanted to go and see it...? He was infinitely preferable to this one IMO. Wouldn't even consider this. Too common.

Have you spoken to any studs standing coloured stallions. Langaller might have coloured foals on the ground & Lostock Huntsman throws nice athletic foals who should have his lovely temperament.

Not taking anything away from this chappy but I preffered the other foal that you posted about.

As for colour, it wouldnt bother me, like you said, colour doesnt come into it if your not breeding/showing but I actually quite like the markings on this chappy, from personal point of view, not for showing but like you said, thats not an issue...his got the colour oh his head and neck, mane and some on his bottom with a dark tail which I think is rather nice once you imadgine him all grown up and tacked up.

Sorry but he doesn't look like my idea of a sport horse foal - if you want a jumper/dressage I'm not sure that a vanner X is the right type of breeding and this one definitely looks like a vanner (common head). Are you only looking for a coloured, by the way? (Following on from your other post)

Does not need to be coloured - think I am just fussy - I have a soft spot for coloureds, my old mare was Skewbald TBx. I have looked at solid foals, but the just do not do it

They have a coloured foal advertised on their webiste by Lostock Huntsman, out of a TB mare. Not a brilliant photo - but the fact that they are happy to produce it for the showring indicates that it's well put together.

Lostock Huntsman was who I put Amy too, and can vouch for his personality. What a lovely, lovely chap!

Just had a look - my Skewbald TBx was by Stetsen (?sire or grandsire to some of the Lostock gang?).
I have to say not keen on some of her markings on her back and not sure she will get big enough ? ?
I am booked in to see the first foal I posted about - so fingers crossed he will be a nice chap

Otherwise my endless hunt will continue

I'm not sure where you are based or what your budget is but look on this site www.rollestone-farm.com, they have several foals for sale one of which will likely make over 16.2hh that is by Treliver Decanter. They also have a Sambertino coloured colt.

QR - - what's going on with his front legs in that second picture? Could be a bad picture but I'm not sure he is put together well. He is also very upright in the head/neck. (though again it could be a bad picture).

I think you can get a LOT more for your money.
