New Dog has been called Hector, then Roland Rat, now he is Zebadee. He was so so tired when he came, it seemed like he slept forever. Today he was tied out just while we did the horse, and he has been doing this a bit for a few days, he bounces every time you walk towards him.
It seems Hector / Rat / Zebedee has captured the heart of OH. If only he would hurry up with the house training he would be a fine dog.

Poor Talos the GSD is feeling a bit put out and is having extra fuss!

The jacket is because he is still so skinny, his hips and ribs are stuck out so you lose the skin. He seems to feel the cold.

Hmmm, I feel a "should I rug my horse", no, "should I rug my dog" thread coming on!!!

So can I C007, he looks like he has a great personality and is really attractive with his little white paws, chin and chest. He is going to be a fabulous little lorry dog :) Well done Red-1 and OH for keeping him and giving him a fresh start x

Oh he's just such a delight. He knows that someone up there was looking out for him the day you found him!! ♥♥♥

He did try the bouncing when in his cage, but I think he gave himself a headache, not least because of the crashing sound it made!

We just need to sort out the house training, we have had no carpet accident as yet as we only allow him in the house loose for half an hour after he has been to the toilet in both departments, but he has had one accident a day in his cage despite being walked out every 2 hours or so, and every time he wakes up.

He also has no lead skills, although as he is so skinny he does not exactly pull a lot!

Gorgeous bouncy chap, how lucky he has been with you! Imagine how high he can jump when up to full fitness hehe

Original post when we found him on Sunday... http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?686273-Found-dog

So far he has been called Hector (OH's choice) then when he was pooing in the house I re-christened him Roland Rat (it was also very apt as his sore ears were pink in patches), then this morning he was Zebadee as per the photos.

This afternoon he met his first Cheese, and was more excited than I have ever seen a little dog, so we thought about the name Grommit. Having said that OH is bothered by the very Gandalf style grey beard, so he has been "Gandalf" too.

Tough job naming such a singularly individual dog!

Had him since Sunday? Have you had him scanned? And put him on Dogslost? I bet someone's missing a little lad desperately. If he's been lost a while, that explains the skinniness. I'd break my heart if someone kept one of mine if he were lost.

OP said in original thread she'd done all the right things: council, internet, vets (scanned and no chip). So if someone's looking for him, they will find him. But it looks like no-one is. :(

Thank you Fiona, I also put him on a whole host of facebook and lost pets sites, but because of a whole lot of comments that quite spoiled my evening I took him off again!

He is still registered with the Police, Council Dog Warden, Dog Pound vets and local pet shops, so if the owner is looking they can find him. I have just removed him from where people can contact me all night with inane comments.

Cinnamon toast, I kept him because in our official dog pound he would only have 2 more days to live. Plus Kennel cough to see his way out. Goodness knows I was not looking for an incontinent older dog!

Plus, if Talos (my other dog - GSD) was missing and hungry and scared I would hope and pray that someone would stop the car, keep him safe, take him to the vets, treat his illness, report him so I could find him.

If you are still concerned here is a link again to my first post http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forum...6273-Found-dog

Oh dear what a shame you got nasty comments. :(

If my Bobby went missing I'd be looking everywhere, in the real world and internet, plus of course he's scanned. I'd also be praying someone like you had taken him in and cared for him until I could trace him.

I suppose there's an outside chance that your old lad's been missing some time and his owners will turn up. However I can't help but think an unchipped dog who isn't on Dogslost, or listed with your local council probably doesn't have anyone looking for him. :(

Well done for being a good samaritan for the lad, and ignore the daft comments on Facebook etc. :)

Thank you again Fiona. The local vets say that in our area there are a lot of elderly lurcher and rough haired terriers found and never claimed. The receptionist got her rescue dog that way. The farmer who is our neighbour has also found an older lurcher tied to his gate in the morning on a couple of occasions.

As the little chap is friendly I hope his real family does come forward. When I lived at the other end of the county I have had that a couple of times, once was a family who had lost a "Lassie" type dog and that was with us a week before they found us as it had gone some distance. But find her they did, by ringing the council where we had registered her.

We asked them to bring some photos to prove ownership, but in the event it was not necessary as as soon as the dog saw them she cried in delight, the family cried in relief, and we cried... well I am not sure why we cried, I think it was because we were so happy that the matted and skinny runt we had picked up, that had tried to bite me as she was so scared, had found her way home.

Galdalf has just spent the last hour laid out on me, he sleeps such a lot.

I suspect his last update...

Last night OH stayed up 'til half midnight for his last toilet, and then I found myself up to my ankles in snow at 3.30am for another toilet stop, but all worthwhile as we had a clean cage this morning.

His other new "thing" is stretching. At first he was not just skinny, it was as though his skin was too tight. He is still not covered in his bones, but now his flesh is at least looser and moves over his bones. The vet was surprised when she felt him, as his rough and curly coat covers just how skinny he was when you felt him.

Now his skin is looser and he is more confident he is learning to stretch. I mean yawn and do a proper luxuriant cat stretch. It is lovely to see.

This morning he has been out and done his chores, and been back to have a cuddle before lunch. His last photo update is a cuddle shot...

I will put another update on if he is claimed.

Well I think you're bl@@dy fantastic for taking him in. From the state of him i'd doubt he was lost - he wouldn't get in that condition in a couple of days.

Here's to a long and happy time together :biggrin3:

What a great update! Do hope it isn't really the last one...
Love the cuddle shot - you both look great.

The sproinginess sounds amazing - no wonder you're thinking Zebedee. I thought Hector suited him, too. Is your GSD getting used to the idea of him, yet?

Please do an update at least at the end of the 28 days? I'd love to hear how he gets on with housetraining, too. Pretty please? <g>

OK Teacups... the house training issue seems to be a lot to do with the little scrap being absolutely petrified when outside, especially when it is dark. He insists on sitting on your foot, and if you tie him up he will cower if you move out of sight. When you return he bounces in delight to have his buddy back.

To be frank he would rather poo in the house, safe and warm!

We will see how it goes.

There is another photo from last night. Another poster was right, he is looking younger. His skin was so tight, and his bones stuck out. He is still skinny, but his skin now runs over the bones, he stretches all the time, and two days ago he learned a new thing - play. He is experimenting with play.

A photo taken by OH last night...

ah Red, lovely up dates, just caught up with them all, he's a grand little chap, had a lot of rescue dogs scared of the dark after you take them in, think there's a connection in that they think your'e chucking them out or bad things have happened at night when theyv'e been on the road for a while which i'm pretty certain yours has, i don't give in on this when asking them to pee outside last thing ( obviously not if they are poorly etc) happy to stay next to them as long as it takes and talk gently but they are sneaky things especially if it's cold or raining!
i have to do it now in French so it's all 'fait peepee!'
i'd call him Blip as he's a wee little scrap! xxx

I seem to have something in my eye... pass those tissues. :(

Bless you and your family for your kindness.
